On March 1, a number of ladies
from Units I and 2 of the Lucknow
• United Church Women came to the
church armed with needles, scissors
and thirn.bles and by dinner time
they had completed tieing two
• quilts. At noon they sat down for a
bag lunch, after which they as-
sembled for the meeting.
Gwen Lennips welcomed. the
ladies and read a verse "My God is
" no stranger." Helen Todd read the
scripture, Noma Campbell offered
prayer and read a poem March
Wind.
Mrs. Lennips took the mission
study from the mandate, reaching
out to children. It was an account
of a retired school teacher who saw
a need in the classrooms in Alberta.
She started volunteering to help in
'schools and soon had other volun-
teers serving as classroom friends to
children and to help the teachers.
. They helped many residents such as
immigrants and aboriginal people in
the English language classes.
At Christmas time they helped
with 400 hampers, white gift Sun-
day which helped give Scarborough
United Church, in Calgary a new
lease on life.
Mrs. Todd read an article Spring,
sooner or later - God always brings.

The units dived fpr the business
meeting.
Unit 1
"Unit 1 met, in the church parlor.
The minutes of the .last meeting
were read and approved. •
The rollcall was responded to by
donating a tea towel ,for the church
kitc hen.
Mrs. Campbell' gave the
treasurer's report, offering was
received and birthday jar passed
and the service of the Least Coin
and prayer.
Unit
Unit 2 of the Lucknow United
Church Women held their business
meeting in the fellowship •room at
the church following the joint
program.
Phyllis Morrison opened with a
poem "March is a fickle thing".
The minutes were read and
approved. Nine members answered
the rollcall by giving a stamped get
well card.
The Unit now has 1.2 paid
meinbers.
Birthday wishes were extended io
Anna Dexter: The birthday jar was
passed, the collection of the Least
Coin and the general 'offering
received.
Ruth Pritchard reported on the
visiting she and Phyllis had done in
February.

The fellowship room of the Luck-
inow United Church was decorated
for St. Patrick's on Mar. li, when'
the Lucknow Presbyterian Women's
Missionary Society were guests of
Unit 3 of the Lucknow United
Church Women. As i , the . ladies
gathered, Laura Lee Cayley favored
with musical selections. Anne
Anderson, leader of Unit 3 wel-
comed everyone and gave; announ-
cements for the UCW.

Aitchison led the devotions on
"Prayer", asking, "Do we take time
to pray?" .and reading from Mark
which told of how Jesus worked
day and night, but still had time to
pray.
A quartette, Shirley Hawthorne,
Peggy,Henderson, Alice Taylor and
Kathleen Forster sang'Till My
Cup", accompanied by Donalda
Moffat at the piano.
The offering was taken by Fern
MacDonald and Rhoda MacKenzie
and received by ,Mrs. Raynard.
Mildred Loree led the group in
.two songs.
Elleda Laidlaw introduced the
speaker, Laura MacDonald, who,
along with her husband Doug arc
retired and living at Bruce Beach.
Mrs. MacDonald is a member of
the Ripley WMS. She spoke on
"Waves", giving many definitions,
descriptions and uses of the word
"waves" in our English language.
This is the season of the year we
think of the wave of Celebration in
Creation and Easter.
Grace Gammie thanked Mrs.
MacDonald and everyone who took •
part in the program;
The quartette sang "The Love of
God". Shirley Hawthorne, president
of the WMS gave annotfncements.
Mrs. Raynard closed the program .
with a reading "Blessings Come In
Many Guises" and prayer. •
Mary Lou Priestap conducted two
St, Patrick's contests:
A social ',time was enjoyed and
lunch was served by the UCW

The Maitland Valley Conservation Authority (MVCA) offers
technical and financial assistance to encourage the
reforestation of marginal lands and the establishment of
windbreaks. Apply now for the 1995 planting season.
Reforestation Assistance Service -
This service provides assistance to landowners
reforesting marginal lands or planting field windbreaks.
The planting of seedling trees Is available for areas
between one and ten acres in size.
The deadline for applications for the 1995 planting
season is May 20, 1994.
Roadside and Windbreak Tree Service -
This service provides larger trees for windbreak and
roadtide plantings. A variety of tree species are
available from the MVCA, based on a 50 tree
minimum order.
The deadline for applications for the 1995 planting
season is September 1, 1994. .
