On Feb. 11, LCPS was enter-
tained by the . school public
speaking program. We, were very
pleased with the student par-
ticipation and community support.
We were particularly proud of our
28 speakers! Representing the
primary division were Ben Knech-
tel, Patricia Murray, Darius Mali,'
Doug Husk, Rachel Ackert, Fiona
Mongillo, Mary Lou van Meeteren,
Laura Knechtel, Tyler Hamilton,
Samantha Dyk, Nigel Black, Bob
Raymond, and Susan Guay. These
younger students participated in a
non-competitive presentation.
Junior speakers were Shea Dickie,
Michael Hofer, Amy Knechtel, Ian
Tyler, Michael Mali, Laura Sande,
Ellen Husk and Alicia Thacker. Our
senior competition was particularly
challenging with excellent presen-
tations by Erin Eadie, Jayme
Sutherland, Rachael Bushell, Melin-
da Donnan, Taylor Mali, Sean
Lougheed, and Andrea Hiller.
School winners were: Junior -
' Alicia Thacker, Ian Tyler and Amy
Knechtel, Senior - Rachael Bushell,
Sean Lougheed, and Jayme Suther-
land. Many thanks to judges, Mrs.
Marilyn Maclntyre, Mrs. Mabel
Wheeler and Mrs. Sylvia Stepnow!
Sean, RachaeL Ian and Alicia
represented , our school at the
Legion competition on Feb. 18.
Once again, all four speeches were
effectively presented. Alicia placed
first and Ian placed third in the
junior division. In the senior
division, Rachael and Sean placed.
first and second respectively.
Rachael and Alicia will speak
again at the Legion Zone Com-
petition in Clinton on Mar. 5. They
Will also represent LCPS at the
district competition at
,W.E.Thompson School in Kincar-
dine on Mar. 4. We wish them
continued success!
Enriching electives
The ' second winter elective
LCPS INSIDER
program was held on Feb. 22.
Many electives reflected our
friendship month theme.
Project Love
Thank you to the project love
committee who helped bag the
snacks and sell treats. A special
thanks to Julie Gollan, Amy Blake,
Ian Tyler, Trevor Askes, Marcella
.Kranenburg, Jessica Steffler, Laura
Sande and Leanne Messana. A
special mention to Julie and Amy
who were excellent salespeople.
The committee' also thanks Mrs.
Thacker and the Kinlough Anglican
Ladies who purchased 10 kits with
their generous donations.
Pass It On Week
The : STARpower theme in
February was • "Friendship." The
school participated in a special
activity called "Pass it On." Every,
student received a coupon. These'
coupons were filled in with a good
deed that could be done for
someone at home or in the com-
munity. When .the coupons were.
returned- to school, hundreds of.
children had "passed on" a special -
favor to a neighbor, a relative or a
friend. Thank -you to everyone who
supported the "Pass it On" coupons
and made the program a success.
Talisman Ski Trip
On Feb. 25 the Grade 6, 7 and 8
studentstry,
. had an opportunity to t
Alpine Skiing at Talisman. Since
downhill skiing is such •a good
family sport, it was great to have so
many parents accompany their
children. for 'this "out-of-school
experience." Thanks to Mr.
McKeon for orgatlizing such an
exciting field trip.
Winter .Olympics
The Lucknow Central Public
Bruce County resident
declared grand champion
MILTON, ONT. - Tara resident
Joanne Miller is grand champion of
the Ontario Agriculture Museum
Quilt Competition.
She was given the award at the
annual Ontario Association of
Agricultural Societies convention
held in Toronto on February '16.
Miller's quilt was '.one of over
2,000 entries at 234 fairs throughout
the province. After winning the
Arran -Tara Pair, the quilt competed
against 14 other district winners and
was declared as the best in Ontario.
The quilt impressed the judges with
its fine stitches and excellent piece
work and the choice •of colors
compliments the contemporary
pauem.

Of the five weeks spent making
the 'quilt, four weeks were on .the
quilting of the material. '
Miller began quilting in 1978 with,
an evening course, 'She eventually
went on to teach the course.
The grand champion quilt will be
the sixteenth addition to the existing
collection now ' permanently
displayed in the W.A. Stewart Gal-
- lery at the" Ontario Agricultural
Museum in Milton.
Museum general manager An-
thony Price encouraged quilters to
submit entries to their local Ontario
fairs during 1994 as the excitement
begins for the 17th annual com-
petition."

Victoria is pleased to announce that
her mom and dad are finally getting
married! The bride is Laurie Elizabeth
Zimmerman daughter of David and
Donna Zimmerman' bf 'Neustadt,
Ontario. The groom is' Private
Christopher James D. Farrish of the
Grey and Simcoe Foresters Regiment,
Owen Sound, son of Jim and Nancy
Farrish of R.R. #7 Lucknow. The wed-
ding will take place in St. Pauls
Evangelical Lutheran Church,
Neustadt, Ontario. The date will be
September 17, 1994.
School Winter Olympics took place
on Feb. 25. Athletes from Kinder-
garten to Grade 8 participated in
co-operative events such as, luge,
biathlon, building a ski mountain,
hockey shoot and carrying the
torch. All of the students enjoyed
the invigorating outdoor activities
and displayed true Olympic
sportsmanship and team spirit.
Many thanks to the senior students
who ran the events and the LOC
(Lucknow Olympic Committee)
headed by Mrs. Black and Mrs.
Mayer.
Fairy Tales Come To Life
The primary classrooms have
been transformed into worlds of
magic as students have begun a
cross -graded unit with a Fairy Tale'
theme. Children are working in a
gingerbread house or in the lands of
Jack and the Beanstalk or the Three
Little Pigs. Activities include,cookie
baking, cooperatively making a
fairy tale picture show, creating
new fairy tale versions of familiar
songs and games, learning magical
math, , dramatizing old and new
tales, as well as enchanting reading
and writing tasks.
'On Feb. 24, Grades 1 and 2 were.
entertained by two storytellers from
Kincardine District Secondary
School. Former' student Jesse Park
and Chris McCrory told Norse
myths and fairy tales to a delighted
audience.
The unit officially opened on Feb.
28 with a visit'from the storyteller
lady, pat Duggan. Ms. Duggan and
Ripley Huron Central student Ran-
dy Edwards. Randy is a Grade 3
student who told her version of the
true story of the Three Little Pigs.
Ms. Duggan and Randy captivated
the students with their presentation.
Snow White and She Seven
Dwarfs also made a surprise visit.
The unit will continue until. M.
