Brookside Seniors are BOUN-
CING up and down the Basketball.
Court. They have just nicely
started their practices on Feb. 14.
They are preparing for Apr. 16. The
coaches are Mr. Culp and Miss
Roberts. We thank them for put-
ting up with all the BOUNCING!!!!
Brookside is planning a Green
Day on Mar. 9. It is the final part
of the SEEDs program where the
school has tried (successfully!) to
complete 100 environmental
projects. An assembly is planned
for 10 a.m. It includes a touring
play : "Jane and Dave's Awesome
Environmental Adventure." At the
assembly the school will also be
. -. getting a green banner. To help
celebrate during the day, there will
be treats and contests.
EVERYONE is welcome!!!
A Crazy Hat And Tie Day on was
held on Friday, Feb. 18th. All the
students and teachers were invited
to wear their WACKIEST and
WIERDEST ties and hats to beat
those February BLAHsIIlltt There
were some pretty snazzy outfits!
House league floor hockey is about
'to begin. Sign-up sheets came down
on Feb. 18.
Mrs. Worsell's class are finishing
up machines in Science. They are
having a test next week. They are
now starting Animals Stories, and
will be reading a wonderful selec-
tion of classic animal stories.
In Room 10, Mrs. Dozois' class,
the grade 8's are starting a unit on
Canadian Women, working through

Miss Winnifted Percy has been
enjoying a holiday at Simcoe with
Mr. and Mrs. Don Bertrand ,and
family.
The Presbyterian Congregation
had a noonday luncheon after the
morning church service on Sunday.
Mr. and Mrs. Walter Breckles.and
her brother Edbert Bushell spent
Saturday in London. s

the Public Speaking Contest : at

was "Hair."

roast Beef Supper will be held in
two weeks time.
Ground hogs were spotted in the
Kinlough area on Thursday, Feb.
17. Spring must be coming soon.

centre activities to learn about im-
portant women in Canada's history..
The whole class is watching Lost In
The Barrens. They have just
finished the book. Grade 8's are
doing Population Research in
Geography and Grade 6's are doing
Country Research. Both groups are
using reference materials including
encyclopedia, vertical files, books,
magazines, and computer search
tools. Computers are used to locate
and check out books, to use atlases
(PC Globe),and to use compact disk
encylopedia.
Mrs. Tebbutt's room 9 are FIN-
DING their way across the Globe in
Exploration and Discovery in grade
7's History. Grade 6's are doing
Properties of Matter in Science.
They are MAPPING their way
through their mapping unit. They
are dealing with Nutrition in Health.
Group II in Geography have just
completed river system reports and
are now -creating the well-known
Flour River systems (river systems
created from flour/salt flour!).
Grade 8 students in Room 11
'(Mr. Hazlitt) have just completed a
population study unit. Jigsaw
groups of experts in agriculture,
economy, education, stastistics, and
life style created and presented
spectacular display products to
compare several third world
countries with Canada.
Feb. 16 was Brookside's 100's
,-ay, celebrating the 100th day of
school this year. The primary
students had to bring in 100 of
something. They also" POPPED
100 balloons (It sounded like giant
popcorn in the gym!). They also
had hundreds of Rice Krispie
Squares to finish off the
celebration!
We are very proud of our students
who shared their speeches and
stories with us in the gym: Preston
Drennan, Peter Holmes Mitra,
Nicole Elliot, Maggie Simpson,
Sara Simpson, and Erin McNay
.(primary). Cody Alton, Stephanie
Blake, Mau Fielder, Lynn Irvin,
Erin Elliot, Elyse DeBruyn, and
Corey Rintoul (junoir). Melissa -
Lynn Dozois, Tory Westbrook, Jenn
Meader, Cathy Cairncross, and
Gabe Clarance (intermediate).
The students who went on to the
Legion on . Feb. ._ 18 were: Elyse
Debruyn, Corey Rintoul and the
back up is Stephanie Blake (junior).
Cathy Cairncross, Melissa -Lynn
Dozois and the back up is Jenn
Meader (intermediate). Thanks to
all the participants!! We would like
to give a special thanks to all the
Judges for their time in making the
NERVE-WRACKING decision!!
We will soon be preparing for our
display fairs, the Science Fair and
the Education Fair. Watch for
