Home is cold to southern travellers
Two Lucknow ladies able to get
away from the cold for a short time
were Joan Robinson and. Joyce
Johnstone. They enjoyed a Carib-
bean cruise starting at Santa
Domingo and visiting the islands of
San Juan, St. Thomas, Tortola, St.
Maarten, Martinique, St. Lucia and
Barbados: The entertainment on the
boat three different nights was
provided by Graeme and Eleanor
Townsend, who asked to be remem-
bered CO all their friends in Luck -
now. They found the weather ideal
there and pretty cold when they
arrived back home.

Donna and Bob Morgan of Ker -
wood had the misfortune of losing
their barn and over 100 market pigs

The Sewing Sowers started off
their Feb. 12 meeting with visits to
the Lucknow Sewing Box and
Lloya's Doll's Plus.
Half of the club went to the
Sewing Box and made neck support
pillows out of desired fabric, while
the other half went to. Lloya's
Doll's Plus and made a needlepoint
craft.
The girls -then" went back to the
arena and discussed their up coming
achievement day.
A special thanks to the staff at the
Sewing Box and Lloya's Doll's
Plus for giving up their time to help
the club with crafts.

Fri., Feb. 11 the Lucknow Hor-
ucultural Society held their Valen-
tine's Euchre. The • good weather
brought out 18 tables of enthusiastic
card players from Ripley, Dungan-
non and Wingham.
High lady was Marion Gamble;
high man, Cliff Menary; low lady,
Violet Thompson; low .man, ken
Alton; most lone hands, Marion
Gamble and Chester Hackett.
There was five tables of Shoot at
the drop in centre.
High lady was Blanche MacCal-
lum; low lady, Ina Farrish; high
man, Dave Swan; low man, Harold
Gardner. Most shoots, Noma
Campbell.
UCW look at strengths
The general meeting of•the Luck -
now United Church Women met on
Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. Lois Walden wel-
comed everyone and members sang
the hymn `Spirit of the Living
God."
The scripttire was read by Ann
Anderson and Lois Walden gave
the meditation and led us in prayer,
The offering was received and
dedicated by Lois Walden.
Gwen Lennips gave a reading
"Christ has no hands but our
hands." •
Elsie Houston was the accom-
panist for the hymns.
Lois Walden introduced the -study
for 1994, Mission into the 21st
Century..Two questions were read
by Allene Bradley; "What does
Mission mean to me?" and "What
are the strengths of the United
Church and the challenges it faces
for mission into the 21st Century?"
Alice Ritchie read an article "Mi-
ssion at Home and Away." Rev.
Karl Sievert, minister at Calva.y
Memorial United. Church in
Kitchener feels" that two things are
important in their community
towards mission at home. They
started a breakfast program for
hungry school children anda coun-
selling program.
Deanna Reavie opened ' the
business with a reading. Marlene
Struthers read the minutes and
Elaine Steer gave the treasurer's
report. Laura Lee, Cayley reviewed
the budget for `94.
Coming events are as ` follows:
March 7,, Presbyterial' meets in
Paisley; Friday March 9, the Luck -
now U.C.W. host the World Day of
Prayer.
Unit #2 of Lucknow United
Church Women (UCW) met in the
choir room at the church on Tues.,
Feb. 1.
• The new leader, Phyllis Morrison
presided and Allene Bradley was
the secretary.
Allene was in charge of the Wor-
ship service with the theme being
"Love." The Scripture was read by
Ruth Mathers. "Come Let Us Sing
of a Wonderful Love, was sung
with Evelyn Cook at the piano.
Gertie Henderson reported on the
visitation that she had done in
January. Phyllis Morrison and Ruth
Pritchard will be on the Visitation
committee for February: .
Deanna Reavie gave the announ-
cement that the World's Day of
Prayer will be in -the Lucknow
United Church on Friday, March 4
at.2 p.m.

Pulling for the Lord." This is the
story of.
the Sunday School Superin-
. tendent, who with his two horses
and sleigh, give rides to • children
and adults for Two Highs United
Church, Alberta.
Helen Todd read an article from
Chalmers United Church,
Woodstock, where a Family Quilt •
was • completed as part ' 9f a
fundraiser. The quilting raised
$6,000, which helped pay for a new
elevator and other renovations to
their church.
