ATOM
Last week the Atom A's played a
quick series with Chesley for the
O,M.H.A.
The first garne was played on
home ice, Thursday, Feb. 10.
Chesley scored three times to
Lucknow's one in the first period.
Defenceman Chris Wainwright did
the honors for the home boys.
Chesley went ahead 5 - 1 in the
third but Lucknow came back with
two markers by a couple more
defencemen. This time it was Den-
nis Andrew from Jordan Hamilton
and Paddy Lyon and Jason Pentland
from Chris Hackett to finish off the
scoring. Final score 5 - 3 for the
visitors.
The second game was played in
Chesley, when they, managed to
double our score.
Chesley opened the scoring early
in the first. Lucknow tied things up
when Adam Chilton flipped the
puck into the net assisted by Steven
Hare. Before the period was over
Chesley had tied the score.
In the second period Chesley out
1 .
scored Lucknow two to one. Paddy
Lyon added a marker on a passing
play from D. Andrew .and J.
Pentland.
The third period was a repeat
performance with Chesley again out
scoring Lucknow two to one. J.
Hamilton found an opening after he
was fed the puck by Russ Mann
and Brian Stanley. Final score 6 - 3
Chesley.
The flip for the third game was
won by Chesley and this time
Lucknow was again out played.
Chesley took over the scoring for
niost of the game. Lucknow had
many chances but luck wasn't on
Lucknow's side. The boys kept
trying and with the score at 6 - 0 P.
Lyons robbed his opponent's goalie
of a shut out. Jonathon Drennan
was the mastermind behind this
play.
Cesley scored again and Luck -
now re!;ponded in the last minute of
play when C.. Wainwright left his
defence zone and scored on a
breakaway. Final score 7 - 2 Ches-
ley.
The boys will now start their
league play offs. Good Luck!
On Feb. 9 the Atom B team
travelled to Ripley for an exciting
game of hockey. Juit before the
tirst period ended Lucknow's Scott
Austin passed to Matthew Martin to
start the scoring. In the second
period Ripley managed to tie the
game.
In the third, Lucknow pulled
together as a team and scored three
more. Ripley squeezed one past the
goalie.
Scoring in the third for Lucknow
were Martin with two to earn him a
hat trick and Jeremy Austin with
one. Assists went to J. Austin with
two, Martin and Dan McDonagh
with singles. Final score 4 - 2 for
Lucknow.
Feb. 12, Kincardine came to
Lucknow to play the Atom B's.
With the teams evenly matched, the
first period was scoreless.
The second period, saw more end
to end battle. Late in the period M.
Martin delivered the puck to J.
Austin who was in perfect position
to put the puck between the pipes.
In the third period both teams
kept up the pressure. On a perfect
line play J. Austin and his brother
Scott set up Martin who found the
upper corner to score the assurance
goal for the local team.
Good defensive play resulted in a
shut -out for Blue Wiens.
Hackett leads Novices to victory
NOVICE
The hats were off for Mark Hack-
ett as he led the Novice A's I to
victory over Normanby last Thurs.,
Feb. 10 with three goals.
The 4, - 3 victory started out
poorly for the locral boys, as the
goal pads ,were misplaced, three
'players were late, and Normanby lit
up the scoreboard with a goal less
than two minutes into the game.
Lucknow got rolling after that and
dominated play throughout the
game, literally skating circles
around the Normanby team. Only a
superior effort by the Normanby
goalie kept this one from being a
"laugher."
Hackett got the first of his goals
at 2:44 of the first, to tie the game,
with help from Ricky Andrew and
Bob Raymond. Mark slammed in a
rebound at 1:29 of the second after
a nice passing play between
Raymond and Tyler Hamilton, to
put Lucknow in the lead. Normanby
got one back in the, period to tie it
up.
The Hackett, Hamilton, Raymond
line kept up the pressure in the
third period resulting in Mark's
third of the night on a scramble in

front. Hamilton drew the only as-
sist.
Five seconds later a Lucknow
forechecker was; sent off for boar-
ding. During the penalty Nigel
Black intercepted a poor clearing
attempt by Normanby and dented
the twine for a shorthanded in-
surance goal. Normanby did get one
more by the Lucknow° goalie to
Imake the final 4-3.
I The defense did a great job of
moving the puck out of the Luck -
now end in this one, and the for- ,
wards never let up even though the
Normanby , goalies continually,
turned them back.
The Novice A's begin play-offs
this week, going up against this
same Normanby squad in the first
round. The second game of the.
series will be played in Lucknow
on Sat., Feb. 19 at 3:00 p.m. Come
on down to the arena and teat your-
self to some exciting hockey.
Howick visited the Lucknow
arena this past Sat. to suit up
against the° local Novice team for
yet another exciting and enter-
taining game for all the fans to
watch.
Both teams started out skating
strong and appeared to be better
matched than in their previous get
together. It wasn't too long until
Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, February 16, 1994 — Page 7
Lucknow turned up 'the heat a bit
on the Howick defence and started
to work out the visiting goal tender.
• At 2:57 in the first period Bob
Raymond and Tylor Hamilton set
up "Hat -Trick Hackett" who made
good on a pretty hard wrist shot to
open the scoring.
Lucknow held 'their own leading •
into the second period. Midway
through the period, Ayton tied it up
and took a go ahead goal early in
the third.
As the fast pace of end to end
action took its toll on the clock,
Lucknow was robbed by the
Howick goal. tender several more
times (much to his surprise). Finally
at 9:03 Lucknow's Shea Dickie
found a gap between the pipes and
tied it up at two each assisted by
William Drennan.
This resulted in Howick really
coming alive and putting con-
siderable pressure on the Lucknow
goal tender, Billy Johnston who
made several big saves.
With all the fans on their toes and
11 seconds left in the game Ricky
Andrew slammed one home assisted
by Nigel Black and Jeff McNee.
Final score Lucknow 3, Howick 2.
This should have the team in
good spirits heading off to Norman -
by this week to begin the playoffs.
Good Luck!! .
