rewarding for student
by Terri Menary
Once again this year F.E. Madill
Secondary School has offered a Co-
operative Ectueation program, and I
am one of the lucky students to
have been able to find a suitable
placement in the field which most
interests me.
I am currently employed at Jack
Reavie Enterprises for my
placement. It is a part of the Win-
gham and District Community
Living Association (WDCLA) and
is located across from the pool in
Wingham.
Jack Reavie Enterprises offers a
day program Monday 'to Friday,
from 8 a.m till 3 p.m., for adults
who have been labelled with a
developmental disability. Through
this day program there are lots of
options open to the participants,
such as: supported employment,
which is a service designed to help
in finding jobs, preparing for these
jobs as well as maintaining these
jobs; basic life skills are dealt with
through communication programs,
nutrition awareness, personal
responsibilities with in the shop and
community involvement.
Contract work is something else
the participants can become in-
volved in. This gives them a chance
to earn extra money.
Also, there is "Belles and Beaus",
a retail store handling everything
from ceding decorations to Hal-
loween costumes, run by the par-
ticipants.
Other services offered are physio
therapy, people first program, sup-
port ofall types and much, much
more.
I find my placement to be very
rewarding and anything but boring.
I am always involved in something
new and constantly learning. I enjoy
going to my placement and not
knowing what to expect, but most
of all, I like my placement because
of the various people I get to
interact with on any given day.
