Will eliminate waiting time
•from page 1
$750,000. Additional money to
purchase the scanner will come
from the hospital's capital reserve
account and local donations,. said
Kirvan.
The operation of the machine'
will be covered by the hospital's
operating budget, he added.
One of the reasons the IPM
committee chose to help purchase a
CAT Scanner was because there is
a 30-40 day wait for a scan in
Owen Sound.
Kirvan explained that a neurolo-
gist won't see a patient until a scan
is done. "By having a scanner here,
physicians will get patients to spe-
cialists much. quicker."
Expansion to the hospital's laun-
dry facility about five years ago
resulted in creating some extra
space. This space will be utilized to
house the scanner, he added.
CAT scans are becoming more
and more common and helpful. For
local patients, having a scan here
will .mean travelling less to get the
service, said Dr. Bajurny.
A steering committee, consisting
of Cumming, Maurice Donnelly,
Stan Eby, Vern Inglis, Roy
Pennington, Loran Peter and Don
Scott, will make the official presen-
tation to the health council and
ministry.
Eby said with all the pressures on
Ontario's health care system, he
see's this as "a catalyst in this area
for hospitals to work together
more."
"This is something that will have
long-lasting effects on the area. One
of the spin-offs will be that it will
attract medical manpower to the
area", said Inglis.
Dr. Mowbray said "A CAT Scan-
ner has never been approved before
in rural Ontario. This committee
will have to convince the govern-
ment it's a worthwhile project. I
can't see how the government could
turn this down."
The slogan Bruce Beckons was
important to the match, and Bruce
will be beckoning again, added
Donnelly.
"This con)mittee will go before
the government and continue to
fight for the people of Bruce, and
prove we in a small community can
Io it," he said.

The death of William (Bill) Chin,
of Toronto, formerly of Lucknow,
was announced in the Toronto Star
last week.
Those of long-time residence in
the village will remember Mr. Chin
as one of the famous trio on the
Juvenile team who brought fame
and recognition to the Sepoy Town
in the latter years of the Second
World War.
From "A Glimpse of the Past",
the history of the village from 1858
to 1983, the following quote is
taken: •

some sparkling victories. The Chin
brothers had a try -out with Toronto
Maple Leafs which was a rare
occurrence in those days of a six
team National Hockey League.
"There was only natural ice to
play on in the Lucknow arena, as
well as most other arenas in the
area. Most of the senior hockey
talent, in those years, was in the
Canadian Armed Forces fighting th
e
Second World War and the minor
Juvenile hockey team took its place,
packing the local arenas for each
game."
"Lucknow was well known from Inside this week's Sentinel,
coast to coast in the early 1940s readers will find Mr. Chin's
when a Juvenile hockey team, obituary and a letter to the editor
