hockey in Howick tourney
The Lucknow Bantam A's had a
busy week playing two regular
games and participating in the
Howick tournament on Jan. 16.
Howick vs Lucknow
Tyler Brooks stood between. the
pipes when Howick came to town
on Jan. 10.
`Michael Menary scored late in the
first period from Jeff Porter to give
Lucknow a one goal lead.
In the second ' Howick scored
twice to go ahead by one goal and
late in the second Lucknow's Glenn
Ferguson scored from Kevin Rin-
toul and Doug Johnston to tie the
game at two as the period ended.
In third period play, Howick
scored, the Ed Courtney replied for
Lucknow, on a. pass from Jeff
Porter. •
With Lucknow short-handed,
Howick added the goahead goal
and an insurancemarker to take a 5
to 3 win.
Lucknow's Colin Becker made it
home from his vacation and Glenn
Ferguson is back in the lineup.
Lucknow vs Teeswater
Ryan Courtney filled the net -
minder's . role for this game in
Teeswater on Jan. 11.
Teeswater took an early lead
before Jeff Porter scored from
Trevor Moffat and Brent Cameron
to tie the game in the first period.
Becker scored from Gavin Col=
well to put Lucknow up by one.
Kevin Rintoulclaimed the go
ahead marker late in the third, on
an assist from Porter. •
This was a hard-hitting game with
Courtney busy in net to keep Luck -
now in the game and rob Teeswater
on several tries.
Final score Lucknow 3, Teeswater

Howick Tournament
This one day tournament saw
Lucknow play well against a com-
petitive Elma Logan. Courtney was

In game two, Lucknow faced off
against Ayr. Another well -dis-
ciplined team effort by. Lucknow
produced their second win of the
day. Final score 3. to 0.
Game three, against Howick,
produced end-to-end rushes, puck's
off goal posts, super goaltending,
back checking and defence all in
one package to produce a every
tense three periods of play. •
The game was a see -saw battle as
each team would score and finally
as Lucknow played shorthanded,
Howick scored a go ahead goal to
take the 4 to 3 win.
The Lucknow team,' coaches and
parents would like to thank Steve
Simpson for sponsoring the team in
this tournament. Individual scoring
information was unavailable at
press time.
Start out weak
end up strong
The Atom A team had a rough
start the beginning of the week, but
ended it on a much better note.
After loosing 5 to 0 .to • Drayton
on Monday night, the team came
out Friday and skated to a three all
tie with Ripley. The team played,
one of its best games of the season.
Ripley flipped one by early in the
first, however Jordan Hamilton
matched it before the period ended.
Ripley scored to go ahead byone
goal in the second period.
Early in the third, Paddy Lyon'
netted the,tying goal.
Ripley put on the pressure again
and tipped one up in the corner.
With only 15 seconds on the
clock, Lyon scored his second after
moving the puck up the boards and
shooting a beauty into the. mesh.
The game ended at 3 - 3. Good
playing team. Keep up the good.

Van Osch hot for Novices
The Lucknow Novice B team was
defeated by Belgrave by a 7 to 2
score on 'Jan. 12.
The host team took the leak with
two goals in the first, with Luck-
now's Luke Van Osch scoring
unassisted in the second period.
Belgrave went ahead with three
more markers.
Luke replied again for Lucknow's
second goal.
Normanby/Ayton Tournament
The team travelled to Normanby
Township on Jan. 15 for the annual
Ayton tournament. The boys faced
off with Durham and lost a close
one 2 to 1.
Luke Van Osch scored Luck-
now's only goal in this exciting
game.
Coming up against Mildmay later
in the day, Jesse Johnston opened
the scoring, in the third' period with
an unassisted goal, and Lucknow's
win was guaranteed when Ryan
Rivett, assisted by Derek Quinlan
and Josh Ackert, found his mark.'
Goalie Dustin Farrish provided
the team with a shutout.
• The final 2 to 0 win for Lucknow
' advanced them to the consolation
round -on Sunday.
The team met up with Walkerton
for the' semi-final' game and
squeaked through a 2 to 1 victory.
Jesse Johnston started the scoring
in the second period, assisted by
Graham Cooleand Blair Morrison.
Walkerton came back to tie the
game in the third period.
Lucknow's insurance goal came
off the stick of Luke Van Osch.
Goaltender Dustin Fairish held off
many shots for an exciting finish. .
Lucknow advanced to the cham-
pionship 'game against Walkerton
The teams played hard during the
scoreless first period.
• Wal, erton came on strong to take
a 6 to 0 victory.
Ice Demons down Ripley
Last Wednesday the Lucknow Pee
Wee Ice Demons travelled to
Ripley. Lucknow jumped into the
lead with two goals in the first, one
in the second and two more in the
third. Strong net minding by Justin
Brown and Clint Gunter kept
Ripley off the scoreboard until late
in the third when they where able
to score twice.
Point earners for Lucknow where
Richard Waike with three goals,
Daryl Aitchison and Taylor Mali
each witha goal and an assist, and
Mark Meriam, with an assist.
Final.score Lucknow 5, Ripley 2.
Lucknow vs Kincardine
Lucknow played. their second
game in two nights against Kincar-
dine III.
Again Lucknow's aggressive first
period play gave them • an early
three goal lead.
PORTS
In the second, Lucknow added
four more to their total while Kin-
cardine hit twice.
Kincardine fought back in the
third with three goals but Lucknow
scored twice more to put the game
out of reach.

with one goal; Chris Tabor with
two assists, and Jason Pritchard
with an assist.

ATOM
The Lucknow Atom B team inet
up with Walkerton on Jan. 8.
Lucknow took an early lead irr the
game on a goal by Jeremy Austin,
assisted by Jordan Schell.
• Steven Van Meeteren then passed
the puck to Matthew Martin who
put it in the net.
Wal14erton scored one in the first.
The second period saw end-to-end
play with Lucknow's Corey
Robertsdn getting two goals, on
assists from Dan McDonagh and
Jordan Schell.
Walkerton managed to tie the
game and in the third period carne
on strong taking the lead with three
more goals.
Lucknow managed one more goal
when Jeremy Austin passed to
Jordan Schell.
Final score Walkerton 7, Luck -
now' 5.
The Lucknow Atom B's would
like to thank Morrison Berries for
thenew set of team sweaters and
socks.
JUVENILE
The Juvenile players travelled to
both Tiverton and Mildmay on the
weekend.
In tiverton the team played short
with only seven players and one
goalie. A good effort was put forth
but a shortage of players took -its
toll and Tiverton took the win.
With a full bench, Lucknow' could
easily, have taken the victory.

Again story weather played a
part as Lucknow dressed only five
players and one goalie for the game
against -Mildmay.
Warren Andrew spoiled • the
Mildmay shutout.
