Lions host fourth Novice tournament
The 4th Annual Lucknow Lions
Novice tournament was held on
Monday, Dec. 27 and once again
was a very successful day despite
mother natures' best attempts . to
disrupt it
The day featured eight teams
competing for the hardware and the
result was some excellent, clean
hockey played the way it was
meant to be. The teams played in
front of a good crowd all day as all
teams brought plenty of support
with them despite the inclement
weather.
The .first game. found Lucknow
starting off right as they defeated
Mildmay 4 - 2. Wallace then beat
Milverton 2 - 1 in a squeaker.
Southampton defeated Normanby 5.
- 3 after playing a five minute •
overtime period and going through •
a double shoot -Out. Final game of
the first round saw Embro over
Howick by a score of 3 1 and an
excellent contest:
Semi-final action carne next
which found 'Mildmay shutting out
Milverton 4 - 0. The next game
Atoms beat
Kincardine
ATOM
The Lucknow Atom "A" team
doubled up on Kincardine, Sunday
afternoon, to start the New Year off
right.
Lucknow opened the scoring at
the midway point in the fust period,
when Russ Mann found Brian Stan-
ley n the open.'. The same two
players teamed upto make it 2 - 0
early in the second. This time it
was Mann from Stanley.
Kincardine responded with two
markers to tie things up. •
Lucknow wasn't about to leave
the period that way, as Patrick
Lyon set Steve' Hare up to make it
In the third, Lucknow came on
Strong scoring.three goals. Goals
were awarded to Chris Hackett,
Stanley and Devin Petteplace. As-
sists ' went/ to Chris Wainwright,
Dennis Andrew and Chris Hackett.

the first and never looked back..

SPORTS
Lucknow all over Wallace 9 2,
putting the game away with five
third period goals. Howick then
completely outclassed Normanby by
a 4 - 2 score.
The final game of, this round
found Embro dominating
Southampton by a 8 - 1 count.
As a result, Mildmay would play
Howick in the consolation final and
hometown Lucknow would face-off
against a strong Embro squad in the
championship game.
In the consolation final a strong
Howick team proved to ¢e too
much for Mildmay as they skated to
a convincing 7 -• 1 victory, taking
home the trophy as consolation
winners.
MVP for Mildmay was Devin
Beitz and for Howick was Craig
Gibson on his five goal perfor-
mance in this game. Overall Craig
had eight goals and two assists for
his day's work.
.The championship game featured
a strong -skating Embro team up
against a very determined Lucknow
squad, playing in front of a packed,.
house. This was by far the best
game of the tournament as well it
should have been, being the final
game, with end-to-end action from
Mart to finish. '
Goaltending pro -'ed to be the
highlight of this match which found
Embro hold on and defeat Lucknow
3 1 on the strength of two third
period goals to break open a very
tight contest. The MVPs .for each
team were theirxgoaltenders, being
Embro's. Jonathan Hart and Billy
Johnston for Lucknow.
A great day was enjoyed by all
teams and the Lions Club would
like to thank everyone who worked
so hard to make this day so suc-
cessful, all eight teams for their
excellent hockey and sportsmanship,
and to all the fans who showed
loyal support for the tournament
and their teams despite some dirty
weather.
