Home-made Soil Sampler
A handy home-made soil
sampler can be fashioned from a
piece of 1 to 2 -inch pipe using
whatever length is desired. At one
end cut the pipe in half for a
distance of about 18 inches. File
the cut end remaining to a sharp
edge. Stick the D -handle from a
broken fork or shovel in the other
end as a hand grip. The open end is
pushed into the ground to the
desired depth 5 to 6 inches and the
core of soil which comes up with it
is dropped into a soil sample box
or pail.
