At the Perth Hols- tein Show September 2, Stonetown Farms had Grand Champion Cow, Premier Breeder, and Exhibitor. At the Western Ontario Champion Holstein Show in London September 12, Stonetown placed first for Breeders Herd. Two of the herd's foundation cows came from Huron County. Mains Lila Citation R, Excellent and Two Star, was bred by and purchased from the late Allister Broadfoot of Seaforth. One of her granddaughter's went Excellent in August. Her last three records average 29,448 pounds of milk and 1,276 pounds of fat. Rayel Benefactor Star, Excellent and Three Star, was bred by and purchased from Allan Wylie and Sons of Clifford. She was Grand Champion Cow at the Huron Holstein Show for Wylie in 1971. One of her daughters went Ex- cellent in August at Stonetown. The Wylie herd will be dispersed at the Tavistock Dairy Sale Ltd. October 23, starting at noon. This herd has been among the top pro- ducing herds in Huron over the past several years, always doing well in type classification and the show ring. At present the herd features one five-year-old Ex- cellent cow, 10 Very Good cows, and several calves by Hanoverhill Starbuck. ❑ PORK ADVISOR Bob Fraser was recently ap- pointed pork advisor for Perth County. A native of Middlesex County and a 1977 graduate of the Agricultural Economics program at the University of Guelph, Fraser operated his own cash crop and hog farm for five years. For the past four years he has been employed in agribusiness, most recently with Cargill in Manitoba. Fraser's job entails delivering the Ontario Pork Industry Im- provement Program (OPIIP) to pork producers in Perth County.
