CHILDREN ARE RAISED
IN WORKPLACE
The need for rural child care in
Bruce County is being looked into
by the Concerned Farm Women
(CFW).
Agriculture is unique in that it is
the only industry where children
are raised in the workplace. On-
tario Farm Safety Association
statistics dramatically point out the
threat to the safety of young peo-
ple on today's increasingly
mechanized farms. Changing
economics have forced many
farmers to forego hiring additional
help or to seek off -farm employ-
ment, leaving the need for rural
child care quite urgent.
The CFW is willing to look into
this area and provide child care op-
tions to people in Bruce County's
rural communities.
They need to hear from you with
your opinions and letters of sup-
port (letters from community
groups are necessary to pursue
funds for setup). They would like
to know if you need child care and
in what form (full day, half day,
year round, seasonally, drop-in;
child care centre, neighbour's
home, your own home; nursery
school, after school, play group,
toy lending libraries, resource
centres).
They would like information on
the ages of children requiring care,
appropriate cost, and what might
prevent you from using any of the
services.
Letters and inquiries may be
directed to Collette Beaupre, Box
352, Teeswater.
HASTINGS COUNTY
HOSTS MATCH
Demonstrations of conservation
plowing equipment will be
featured twice a day at the Interna-
tional Plowing Match and Farm
Machinery Show at Stirling,
September 16 -20.
"Ask any 10 farmers for a
definition of conservation tillage,
you may get 10 different answer,"
says Dave Little, Hastings County
Agricultural Representative with
the Ontario Ministry of
Agriculture and Food (OMAF).
"In a nutshell, conservation tillage
is any plowing system that results
in less soil loss than the traditional
