When beef prices dropped, farmers began to face the harsh reality of farm foreclosures and severe financial and emotional stress. Further into the 1980s, almost every commodity group in agriculture has become affected, with the tobacco industry in South - Western Ontario being particularly hard hit recently due to changing market demands. The University School of Rural Planning and Development, through their mandate to reach out to rural communities, has, in con- junction with Canada Manpower, sponsored a summer project designed to research and make a concrete contribution towards helping rural support groups and farm families. The Farm Family Financial Crisis Research Team, supervised by Jackie Wolfe, is composed of the following students; Farjam Masrour, Rural Development, Michele Kempster, College of Family and Consumer Studies, and Ruth Coursey, Ontario Agricul- tural College. Three major outputs are an- ticipated from the project. The first is an annotated bibliography on the financial crisis and its ef- fects on the farm family and the rural community. The emphasis is on the stressful effects on the fami- ly as a unit, its individual members, and the rural communi- ty. The bibliography includes the organizations and individuals in the organizations which interact with the farm family. This encom- passes the financial community, farm organizations, and the public and volunteer social service delivery agencies. An inventory or directory of the range of social services which are available and emergent through public and volunteer agencies is also being assembled. Each entry will show the mandate and ac- tivities or programs of support be- ing offered by an individual group or association. The information compiled by
