Under the Reforestation Assistance Program approximately 40,000 trees were planted on 24 privately owned sites within the watershed. The remainder of the trees were put on lands owned by the Authority. The major species planted were white pine, white spruce, white cedar, norway spruce, and poplar. The Reforestation Assistance Program is available to land- owners with between one and 10 acres of land that is unsuitable for agricultural use. Trees planted in these areas will help control soil erosion, conserve water, aid in flood control, and improve wildlife habitat. The 1987 planting program is presently booked, however, land- owners can still apply for the spring 1988 program.
