The Rural Voice, 1986-06, Page 54NEWS Tools needed Check your tools — look in the attic, the basement, garage, driv- ing shed or behind the cobwebs in the back bin in the granary. Most of us have an extra hoe, hammer, rake, pitch fork, or any number of hand tools that probably don't get too much exercise. The UCO and independent Co -Op stores across Ontario are acting as collection depots for Global Ed/Med Sup- plies to collect and distribute desperately needed hand tools to African farmers who have been displaced in recent years by drought, war, and famine. During June and July, Co -Op stores across Ontario will have an area set aside in their stores for people in the communities to drop off usable hand tools. "We believe this is an excellent idea," says Dave Dawson, manager of the Lucknow District Co -Op. "It gives people in this area a chance to help others in a way they can relate to." Global Ed/Med Supplies (Canada) Inc. is a charitable organization which has in the past three years, collected and distributed medical equipment and supplies to developing countries. Last year, working with school children in Toronto, they distributed 40,000 blankets in Ethiopia and the Sudan. Among the prominant Cana- dians involved with Global Ed/M- ed is the irrepressible cartoonist Ben Wicks, the Right Honourable Jeanne Sauve, Governor General of Canada, and Cardinal Carter, Archbishop of Toronto. Several relief agencies will be assisting with the distribution of the tools including the Canadian International Development Agen- cy, The Christian Relief Agency, the Eritrean Relief Association, and the Relief Society of Tigray. Anyone who would like to make a cash donation to purchase addi- tional tools, seeds or oxen (in Africa) should make cheques payable to Global Ed -Med Sup- plies Inc. A tax receipt will be issued on request. It is important that the tools be in good working order; junk is junk in any country. So clean out the shed, fix up those old tools, and help another farmer feed his family. ❑ MG Farm with CHARM • Alfalfa Pellets • Wood Shavings • Wire Caging • Chinchilla Grain Mix • Automatic Drinkers • Alfalfa Cubes • Custom Pellets • White or Blue Sand • Mirra-Coat • Mineral • Vitamin Tonic • Wheat Germ Oil • Collars • Pelting • 1st Quality GRADED Breeding Stock Chinchilla Charm of Canada Ltd.
