2 THE RURAL VOICE
EDITOR'S DESK
June has been traditionally the
issue "in praise of pork" as it
coincides with the Pork Congress
held annually in Stratford. At the
same time, June is dairy month
and we feature that industry as
well.
Phyllis Coulter talked to some
of the pork farmers who entered
into the Pork Congress Innova-
tions Contest. They have a varie-
ty of good ideas to save time and
money which may make you take
a second look at your own opera-
tion.
The Robertsons — Bob, Edith,
and their son, Ian, are constantly
assessing their situation, and are
willing to change or re -direct their
efforts to keep on top of their
farming operation. Mary -Lou
Weiser -Hamilton interviewed
them at Roblea Farms, their dairy
operation near Tara.
"Must be nice" to have w go
to Bermuda twice a year — like
Bill Binder. Binder, and his son,
Ed, Tri County Dairy Supplies,
St. Marys, recently installed a
pipeline system at one of the
largest dairy farms in Bermuda.
The Binders must return to ser-
vice the equipment regularly.
We have a story on the world's
longest milk run — getting fresh
milk to the people in Darwin,
Australia from across that vast
continent — there's a look at the
fresh faces of Centralia graduates
— and a story on Peter McAr-
thur, the Sage of Ekfrid, a witty
farm writer for the Toronto
Globe in the early 1900s who said
things such as "after the chores
were done, I took a pail that was
as empty as a political platform
and she (the calf) followed ane
right back to the pen, just like an
intelligent voter. " If that piques
your curiosity, you'll find the rest
on page 36.
