Riddell replies
1 find it difficult to allow accusa-
tions made by Lloyd Graham of
Lucknow about me in his letter to
the editor in your March issue, to
go unchallenged.
Since becoming Minister of
Agriculture and Food, 1 have at-
tempted to maintain an open-door
policy, to meet with as many farm
organizations and groups as have
requested meetings with me, and to
respond to all telephone calls and
correspondence as expeditiously as
possible.
1 was therefore surprised and
upset to read of Mr. Graham's
allegations that I do not reply to
letters.
The truth of the matter is that
Mr. Graham never wrote directly
either to myself or to the
Treasurer. The letter he refers to
was sent to his brother-in-law who
in turn sent it on to the Treasurer
for his information and response.
There was no request that it also be
sent to me for my response.
The Treasurer reviewed the let-
ter of Mr. Graham and replied to it
(copy was attached). At no time
did the Treasurer indicate that I
also would be responding to the
letter sent by Mr. Graham to his
brother-in-law.
Perhaps if Mr. Graham was tru-
ly serious about discussing his
views with me he could have made
as much effort in contacting me as
he evidently did in complaining to
you.
If Mr. Graham had bothered to
write to me, or even asked for a
response from me, you can be
assured he would have received
one.
