The March issue of The Rural Voice will feature art work,
stories, and poems written by children who live on farms
(or in towns) served by The Rural Voice.
Prizes will be awarded to the top three artists,
writers, or poets in the following age
categories: 5-8, 9-13, and 14-18.
Possible themes: my favourite farm animal or
chore, or what can farmers do to help
preserve our environment.
All artwork should be 8" by 10" or 12" by 14",
done in black pen, ink, or crayons. No pencil
or blue pen.
Each entry should have your name, address,
phone number, and age clearly marked on it.
All entries are welcome.

FARM FACES
Jack Black of Markdale was
elected president of the United Co-
operatives of Ontario (UCO) at the
board meeting following UCO's
39th annual meeting recently held
in Toronto. Murray Allen of
Vankleek Hill was elected first
vice-president and David Rendall
of Arthur is second vice-president.
Bob Down, a former UCO presi-
dent himself, is the board member
for Huron and Perth counties.
The Bruce County Holstein
Club executive was elected at their
annual meeting: president, Bob
Burgess, R.R. 2, Mildmay; first
vice-president, Dave McCready,
R.R. 2, Elmwood; second vice-
president, Howard Zettler, R.R. 4,
Walkerton; past president, Jim
Farrell, R.R. 3, Ripley; and
secretary -treasurer, Bev Fry, R.R.
1, Ripley.
The chairman of the Huron
County Council's Agriculture and
Property Committee is Exeter
Reeve Bill Mickle. Also on the
committee are Grant Stirling, A.A.
Wasson, and C. Deichert.
Hill and Hill Farms of Varna
won the Project Award presented
by the Huron Soil and Crop Im-
provement Association at their
Appreciation Night held in
Seaforth, January 10. The award
was presented to the Hills for their
well-planned corn and other crop
trials.
Booster Awards were also
presented to people who have
bolstered conservation in the area:
Joe Gibson, a member of the
Ausable Bayfield Conservation
Authority Board; Neil McGavin
who lent equipment for conserva-
tion efforts; Pat Lynch who often
lent his expertise; Bruce Shill-
inglaw, a practising farmer who is
a fine example of farming for the
future; Norm Alexander, a strong
promoter of soil and water conser-
vation; and Bruce Tile, also active-
ly participating in conservation
projects.
Bert Visscher, chairman of the
Huron Soil and Water District
presented the Ontario Farm Con-
servation Award to Francis
Hogan, Lawrence Hogan, Ray
Hogan, and Steven Howard. They
hosted a tour of their farm in 1985
for hundreds of interested
farmers. 0
