Here's a home decorating idea that will sweep you off your feet A Christmas Broom Mary Muir, Polka Dot Fabrics in Stratford displays this month's decoration for you to make. Supplies Required 24" (60 cm) straw broom 3 lengths of plaid ribbon approx- imately one inch (2.5 cm) wide: • 26" (65 cm) • 2 x 18" (46 cm) • 60" (150 cm) 3 pine sprigs, 1 silk poinsettia 3 gold -coloured nine cones Take the 26" (66 cm) ribbon and starting at the top twist the ribbon around the broom handle. The rib- bon should twist six times around the handle of the broom. Glue the ribbon at the top and bottom of the broom handle. Fold both 18" (46 cm) ribbon pieces in half to make the tails for the centre of your broom. To make pointed ends on the ribbon tails, fold the end in half lengthwise and snip from fold to edges on an angle. Glue both ribbons just under the bottom of the broom handle. Spread the four tails across the fan part of the broom and glue in place. From the 60" (150 cm) ribbon piece make a florist bow or the type of bow you desire. Attach at the bot- tom of the broom handle covering the top of your glued ribbon tails. Now place your pine sprigs, poinsettia, and gold cones on the fan of the broom. Try arranging them in several different ways. Choose the look you like the best. Glue the sprigs into place. t)! ( f\1R{ R 19rts 51
