2 THE RURAL VOICE
Farmers are quick to say that they
don't like what George Brinkman
has to say, but they show up in
droves at meetings to listen to him.
An agricultural economist at the
University of Guelph, he says parity
pricing might not be the "quick fix"
that farmers can count on, that in
some instances free trade may be
somewhat favourable to Canadian
farmers. He is well aware that his
opinions are not always popular,
but his commitment to agriculture
remains unchanged. Draw your own
conclusions from our lead story this
month.
Is Christmas still like Andrew
Dixon describes it? Dixon reminisces
about the eve before Christmas, the
annual concerts, the family get-
togethers, and the parties and
dances that brought in the new year.
Also this month: Mary -Lou
Weiser -Hamilton looks at maple tree
die -back and making your woodlot
healthier and more profitable; Merle
Gunby provides a series of photos in
conjunction with Gertie Blake's
report on the farm rally at St
Thomas, the home riding of federal
Minister of Agriculture John Wise;
in the news, Centralia College hosts
its annual open house, intensive
cereal management gets the nod at
the seed growers' annual, and Pro-
ject Hope seeks compassionate help
for distressed farmers.
The staff and freelancers of The
Rural Voice and Gunbyfield
Publishing Ltd., thank you for your
loyalty and exceptional support dur-
ing the past year and extend very
best wishes for a healthy and pro-
sperous 1986.
