by Rev. Peggy Kinsman

In the opening monologue of Fiddler on the Roof
we hear these words spoken: "How do we keep our
balance? °I can tell you in one word. Tradition!"
Because of our traditions everyone here knows who
he is, and what God expects him to do. without our
traditions life would be as shaky as a fiddler of the
roof.
There's a lot of truth in these words. Traditions
shape our Lives and become part of who we are as
individuals and families. Traditions give a rhythm to
life. They give us a sense of security and stability. In
our often shaky world we need traditions.
Over time, families establish their own traditions for
celebrating Christmas. As family units evolve and
change, our traditions also change.
What are the traditions in your home? How do you
celebrate christmas? With a family gathering? With
special decorations that hold cherished memories?
With the giving of gifts to loved ones? In many
homes special foods are prepared and enjoyed at this
season. Traditions are an important part of the
Christmas celebration.
Over the years my family has developed traditions
that have become part of our Christmas celebration.
We look forward to these with anticipation each year.
Some traditions have changed and been replace by
others. One tradition that has survived the years is our
gathering on Christmas Eve. The gift wrapping stops,
the turkey stuffing is put aside, the frantic pace of ,
getting ready is slowed. In early evening, tradition
descends. In the candlelight of the church my family
gathers .with others who've come to hear the story
that lies at the centre of ,all Christmas traditions. As
the story is re -told we come to understand anew the
meaning of all our traditions. In the Christmas Eve
" service we hear of a baby born in a manger, of
shepherds who watched and magi who brought gifts.
And of cow -se, there are the angels who sing.
For my family this is the one tradition upon which
all the others hang. Perhaps this is true also for your
family. If not, consider starting a new tradition this
year. Pause. Take time away from all the busyness of
your Christmas traditions. On Christmas Eve this year
gather with family and friends to hear the Christmas
story and to sing with angels: Glory to God in the
highest heaven and on earth Peace among those
whom He favors.
A Blessed Christmas to all.

They'd wish for money to
help people less fortunate
If had one wish for Christmas it '
would be...All the money in the
world to buy things like a car, a 4 -
wheeler, a uuck, a snowmobile and
a big house. Half of it would go to
poor people.

If I had one wish for Christmas it
would be to go to Florida and go to
Walt Disney World. Or to have
Virtual Realty and SEGA C.D. and
Super NES C.D. Or I would like
my dad or mom to win the lottery
and buy, a new car so we can go to
my grandmother's house in Elliot
Lake. 1

If I had one wish for Christmas it
would be...That all the poor people
in the world would have a meal for
Christmas. Because they don't have
very much in poor places because
they have very little food and
drinking water. I hope that every
little soul has a plate full of food
and a candy cane ora chocolate for
a Christmas present. I hope that
everyone has a good Christmas and
has.:a good year. I hope that kids
have good health and a good
education. Kids deserve.to be loved,
and cared about and certainly
deserve to • have a good caring
family.
If I had one wish for myself it
would be that I would win the
lottery and win $100 billion and
spend it on going shopping and
going places.

If I had one wish for Christmas it
would be to play in the N.H.L. If I
scored 20 goals I would be in the
N.H.L. To score 20 goals I would
have to practice, practice, practice.
If I get lots of money I would
give some of it to my family and to
my friends. Next year if I have one
wish it would be to get lots of
money. The year after that I'd like
to be the best player in the N.H.L.

If I had one wish for Christmas it
would be $10 million. Then I could
put most of it in the bank. I could
buy a 4 -wheeler and a snowmobile
and a Sega CD with all the CD
games I would give $1,000 to.Sal-
vation Army for Christmas presents
I would spend $1,000 more on
lottery tickets.
Mark VanDiepenbeek

If 1 had one wish for Christmas it
would be that I would make it to
the N.H.L. and make lots .of money.
Then I could give foodto lots of
people so they have something to
eat for Christmas.
