HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-12-22, Page 14i Page 14 - Lucknow Sentinel, Wednesday, December 22, 1993 Bessie Viola Sangster 1891 - 1993 Bessie Viola Sangster, of Toronto, died in the True Davidson Nursing Home on Dec. 12, 1993 in her 103rd year. The former Bessie Graham was born May 18, 1891 in Kinloss Township. She graduated as a Registered Nurse from Victoria Hospital Nursing School, London in 1915 and became a Public Health Nurse for the Toronto Public School System. On Aug. 18, 1926 she married Beverley T. Sangster of Toronto. She is survived by one son, Allan and his wife Mya and three grandchildren, Huw, Rebecca and Andrew Sangster. Mrs. Sangster was the last sur- viving family member and was predeceased by her husband in Dec. 1983, her parents Duncan and Mar- garet MacKillop Graham; a son John D. in 1964; a sister May Mac- Donald (1991) and three brothers, Neil (1961); Douglas Graham (1985) and Archie Graham (1993). She is also survived by a number of nieces and nephews: Miss Mar- garet MacDonald and Dr. Mack MacDonald of Samia; Rev. Graham MacDonald of Burk's Falls; Mar- garet Keith of Goderich; Marian Zinn and Bell Hackett of Lucknow; Gladys Tuck of Oakville; Kay Kingdon, Rose Cassin and Mary Jennings of London. The funeral service was held on Dec. 16 at Humphrey Funeral Home, Toronto. Burial will take OBITUARIES place in South Kinloss Cemetery in the spring. Liella Finlayson 1901 - 1993 Liella Finlayson, of Princess Court, Kincardine, formerly of Lucknow, died at Kincardine and District General Hospital, on Dec. 16, 1993, in her 93rd year. She was a member of the Free Presbyterian Church. Miss Finlayson was a retired nurse and teacher. She taught at Lochalsh School for five years before training as a nurse at Toron- to General Hospital. Upon graduating, Miss Finlayson was a private duty nurse, in Toronto, for many years prior to her retirement. She was born on Feb. 17, 1901, in Ashfield Township, a daughter of the late John and Christine (MacKe- nzie) Finlayson. Miss Finlayson is survived by a nephew Dr. D. Finlayson and his wife Anna, of Toronto, and several great nieces and great nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers Dr. Donald Finlayson, Duncan Finlayson in infancy, Rod Finlayson in infancy and a sister, Mary Belle in infancy. The funeral was conducted by Rev. Donald McClure and Rev. Congratulations to newlyweds .rrsarNS QOUTH KINLOSS 111/ by Ruth Buchmeier Congratulations to Bonnie and Ray Cunningham who were married on Dec. 3 at South Kinloss church with a reception following in'Luck- now. The couple will holiday in Florida. South Kinloss Sunday school concert was held on Sunday with a very good turn out. At 12:30 there was a congregational pot luck din- ner to start the afternoon. The children and teachers worked very hard to put on such an enjoyable concert. . Christmas is here, children, are out of school for the holidays and people•are rushing around shopping. However, this is the best time of the year. It is so beautiful to hear the children singing songs and carols at the concerts. People are . more happy at this time. Our day- to-day life seems so stressful, so let's forget all our worries and fill our hearts with love and remember what Christmas is really all about. Enjoy the togetherness of our families, friends and neighbors. I am saying Have a. Merry and safe Christmas. and all the best in the new, year. 4,-H NEWS Christmasers in St. Helen's The Dec.. 16 meeting of Christmasers in St. Helen's started out with reading the. 4-H book. Members then judged their gift tags, They then made pinatas with sticky stuff. They enjoyed Christmas readings and talked about a Christmas play. • Port Albert During a combined meeting Dec. 4, members participating in the Home for the Holidays 4-H project decided to call their club The Port Albert Christmas Craft Cookers. . Members brought recipes to bake that, day, along with all the neces- sary-equipme-nt. Safety tips on cooking were given. A measuring demonstration and a chance to look at Christmas crafts and recipes were all activities conducted by youth leaders Dree Park, Colleen Dalton and Jennifer Black. 'Members enjoyed sampling each other's recipes. At meeting five and six at the Dungannon Church Hall, on Dec. 11, members brought crafts they had made on their own and explained how they made them. Jean Black demonstrated making Christmas angels. Youth leader Jennifer Black demonstrated how to make a gingerbread house, while the other two youth leaders, Dree Park and•Colleen Dalton, described how they made their crafts. Leaders Donna Hayden and June Meader taught the members how to make two crafts.
