Bruce County warden makes no promises by Ron Wassink . every study." WALKERTON--The new warden Two major issues being tackled in of Bruce Cbunty isn't making any the county are the official Plan and promises and is keeping his options the Waste Management Master Plan. McIver said both can be "quite lengthy" and can be "controversial." open. Milt McIver, reeve of Lindsay 'Township, beat out two other can- didates for the top political job in the county in an election held Dec, 13. The other candidates were, Harry Thede of Saugeen Township and Jack Riley of Greenock Township. In his brief acceptance speech, McIvelr spoke of the economic climate and said the county will continue to provide services as effectively as possible. "We'11 be able to satisfy most people, but we won't be able to satisfy them all," he said, adding that- we_ came_ .through a pretty tough 1993." McIver also gave his support to studies, saying that even though some studies cost a lot of money, there's some good to be found in McIver was first elected to municipal politics as reeve in 1981, In an interview afterwards, McIver was asked about trimming the budget in the current economic climate. He said there are a lot of uncertainties as "we're not certain what directives are 'coming down from the federal and provincial governments." "1 feel we're in for a surprise this year," he said, adding that Bruce County is in good financial shape. McIver also wouldn't speculate as to what kind of tax hike ratepayers could expect m-1994. Two other reeves were nominated . for warden, but Paul Eagleson of Tara and George Goetz Of Carrick declined. Set minor variance fee WEST WAWANOSH - The fees for minor variances from the township's zoning bylaw was set at $200 per application for the year 1993, when: council met Dec. 7. Council declared that a minor variance is not required for the proposed site of a liquid manure storage tank on the property of Alex Van Niekert. If necessary, the firm of Monteith, Monteith & Co will be requested to assist clerk -treasurer Joan Armstrong, to prepare a plan under the new amendments to the Pay Eghity Act. A motion passed early in the year writing off an outstanding account for drainage repair in Dungannon was rescinded. The amount will be charged to the road account because the work provided the greater benefit to the streets in Dungannon. Charges were set for dumpsters depositing waste in the trench at the landfill site - $50 for small dumpsters (4 metre) and $100 for large dumpsters or single -axle straight trucks. Council accepted the terms of the Lucknow and • District Joint Recreation Agreement as signed by the Village of Lucknow and the Townships of Ashfield and Kinloss. Bylaws were'passed to appoint a Committee of Adjustment and give that committee the power to grant minor variances from the provisions of any bylaw that implements the township's secondary plan. Due to the outdated assessments on the Young's Creek Drain, and the unjustifiable cost of assessing the repair costs to the appropriate owners, the cost of repair work to the drain in 1992 and 1993,'amoun- ting to $569.39, will be wrote off.
