Trustee Lillian Thompson got the
last word in the debate.
"Supervisory officers are ab-
solutely necessary," she said, noting
constant changes in programs and
technology handed down by the
province.
Thompson said the board relies on
its superintendents to monitor the
classrooms and make sure programs
it approves are implemented.
MacKay was the only trustee to
vote against hiring Armstrong.
Paul Martindale, Director of
Education, said even with the
replacement superintendent, the
Bruce board is "average or a little
below" in its ratio of supervisory
officers to students.
Later, Fenton said keeping the
same number of superintendents is
important, especially when the
board is cutting the number of
support staff at the administration
centre in Chesley.

WI host
pot luck
dinner

Eleven members and two visitors
.enjoyed a pot luck dinner at the St.
Helen's Women's Institute
Christmas meeting on Dec. 7;
President Caroline Menary opened
the meeting in the usual way and
read "Festive Christmas".
Rollcall was a stamped get well
card.
• Florence McConnell read the
minutes and .Norma Raynard gave
the financial report.
Mrs. Raynard played for ,a
Christmas carol sing -song.
Elaine Errington led the topic
pertaining to a letter to Santa and
his reply back.
Mrs. McConnell gave a humorous
reading "Come share the bird -the
bird -the 'bird".
Members discussed making up
boxes of goodies for some in the
community, as well as red car-
nations for some who can't eat
Sweets. •
Santa Clause paid a visit giving
everyone a gift and extending a
Merry Christmas to all.
Shoot winners
At •the last shoot party Sponsored
by the WI, Edna Young and Kay
McCormick placed first and second
'for the ladies, with Ross Errington
and John King winning for the men.
Jim Coultcs and Ross Taylor cut
cards fur the shoot prize with Ross
winning.
Christmas season continues
The busy Christmas season con-
tinues
with many different
programs. Last Wednesday was theLUCKNOW
annual carolfest service held this by Mildred l nree
year in the Lucknow Presbyterian
Church.
The church had been beautifully
decorated by Nancy Brown.
Norma Raynard at the organ and
Mary. Lou Raynard pianist, provided
the background music as well as the
accompaniment for the carols bet-
ween each e.::oir.
Choirs participating were Luck -
now Central Public School, Luck -
now Presbyterian, St. Peter's
Anglican, Christian Reformed,
United Church, Kingsbridge Roman
Catholic and the South Kinloss
Presbyterian Church.
Charlene Conley has moved in
with Margaret McPherson and
Corce Gibbons has moved into 623
Campbell St.
Congratulations to Ruth Mashers
who celebrated her 80th birthday
with a come and go tea at the
Legion on Sunday afternoon.
We are sorry to hear of so many
people having health problems and
hope for better days ahead.
There were seven tables of shoot
in play at the Drop in Centre on
Friday when Teresa Courtney and
Andy Scott took high spots. Rita
Gilmore and Tom Phillips were in
low spots with Tom Culbert taking
the most shoots.

Christmasers in St..1-lelen's
Members of the Christmasers in
St; Helen's• 4-H project met on Dec.
9.
They learned how to cut angles
and how to use a miter box as they
made their bird houses. While
attaching the roof to the bird house,
members learned that glue from a
glue gun is very hot.
