Well-known economist
will speak at beef day
Beef Day
Area farmers have a great oppor-
tunity to hear Dr. Harlan Hughes,
Extension Livestock Economist
from North Dakota State University
on Jan. 10 during Grey -Bruce
Farmers week. Last winter he spoke
at several beef meetings in Eastern
Ontario and he quickly gained the
reputation of being the "best
speaker" that they had ever heard.
Why? He has a wealth of
knowledge on the beef industry
from start to finish. He combines
production factors with economics
and management and ties it all
together under the title of "I-
ntegrated Resource Management".
He is also noted for his
knowledge of market trends and
who the big players are in the in-
dustry. He will have two sessions
on Beef Day.
One topic is "Integrated Resource
Management to Improve Economic
Efficiency". The second one is
entitled "Beef Cattle Distribution
and Outlook - A North American
Perspective". Anyone receiving

Two New 4-H Projects
"Batter Up!" '(baking) and
photography are two new provin-
cially developed projects which will
be available for 4-H clubs in the
new year.
The "Batter Up!" project starts
with basic measuring techniques,
moves on to muffins, cakes, pie,
cookies, and novelty cakes and
decorating.
The photography project is or-
ganized according to the skill level
of the 4-H members --novice, inter-
mediate and advanced. Whatever
the beginning skill level, the 4-H
member will have the opportunity
to improve their technique through
practice, analysis, and helpful
instruction.
