The 20 men roster practiced full out, at the Lucknow Sports Complex on Dec. 7, demonstrating their high speed and disciplined hockey style. Prior to the Platers taking to the ice, head coach Jerry Harrigan and assistance coach Paddy Flynn ad- dressed approximately two dozen coaches, managers and trainers from the Lucknow minor hockey system. They explained the drills that would be carried out that night as well as some of the points as- ,sociated with coaching at the Junior "A" level. The event was sponsored by the Lucknow Minor Hockey As- sociation (LMHA) as a fundraising event by executive member Rod McDonagh and the Platers Director of Administration, Dave Lord. There was a crowd of ap- proximately 325 people in atten- dance and the profit of just over $700.00 'was raised for the minor hockey system. Everyona in attendance agreed that the Owen Sound Platers are a first class organization. The players put on a fine exhibition of hockey talent, never once letting up as they continually went through drillsas laid out by the coaching staff, Their enthusiasm carried over into the autograph session as all players took a turn at signing any and all pieces of paper shoved in front of them. Coaches Harrigan and Flynn, remained on the ice during the shootout assisting the local players with both words of advice and encouragement. The Platers goalten- ding tandem of Jamie Storr and Kevin Weekes remained on the ice for the shootout against the 12 local participants, although Weekes was felled by sore feet from breaking in new skates and was reduced mainly to a cheerleading role. Winner of the first place Owen Sound Plater team jersey was Dan Wilken of Ripley, while Ed Giesbrecht of the Dungannon area won the autographed team stick. Murray Cox of St. Helen's was the winner of the Jeff Kostuch autographed stick. Both sticks were donated to Lucknovi by the Platers organization as prizes in their raffle. It should again be pointed out that the Owen Sound Platers came down to Lucknow at strictly their own expense, with no reimbursement being made to them for their ap- pearance. They, of course, hope to see that some of the Lucknow fans and friends, they made while here, up at future home games in the Bayshore Community Centre. Their next home game is tonight against the Niagara Falls Thunder and then they hit the road this weekend for games in Kingston, Belleville and Ottawa before returning home for the Christmas break. The LMHA Executive would like to, thank all of those who were involved in this profit raising event as it took many hours of volunteer time. The executive would also like to thank all those who were in- volved in the pizza sales fundraising project as spearheaded by arena manager, Gary Nicholson. Any questions or concerns about the minor hockey system in Luck - now should be channeled through to LMHA executive members. It is normal procedure to put these into written form first. e* 0 It was a thrilling night for many Lucknow minor hockey players as they got a chance to test their skills against those of the Owen Sound Platers.
