Unit 1 '
Unit I of the Lucknow United
Church Women met Nov. 30 in the
church parlor for a pot luck lunch
before the units were shuffled.
Shirley Bolt opened the worship
telling the meaning of the Advent
season. Margaret Cameron, after
lighting the candles, along with
Phyllis Morrison read scripture
verses intermingled with Christmas
hymns and prayers by Helen Hack-
ett. Lois Walden treated everyone
present to Handel's Messiah, "Unto
us a Child is Born".
Ella Hackett chaired the business
period with 14 members answering
the rollcall with a favorite
Christmas hymn or scripture verse.
The treasurer reported a good year
financially. Happy birthday was
sung for Margaret Cameron.
Ella gave "Time Enough to Love"
before the benediction closed the
meeting.
Unit 2
An interesting and fitting lesson,
particularly for this season, came
out of the Christmas story "No
Room", which was part of Unit 3's
Nov. 30 meeting at River Valley
Apartments.
The story goes that a bystander
at the crucifixion of three men, the
centre one being Jesus, was obser-
ving' the proceedings when
something in Mary's countenance
made him realize he might have
seen her before. '
He overheard people saying that
this man in the centre, Jesus, was
born in a stable because there was
noroom in an inn in Bethlehem.
He realized he had been the in -

and her sister, at the piano, greeted
members of the South Kinloss
Women's Missionary Society as
they gathered for the Christmas
meeting at the church. Dessert was,
served by Ruth Bell, Irene Dickie
and Marilyn McIntyre.
President Kathy HoWald read
"The Origins of Christmas Kettles".
The Sunday School Christmas
concert is scheduled for 12:30 on
Dec. 10.
The prayer circle was composed
of Muriel MacKenzie, Ruth Langen
and Ruth Buchmeier.
The highlight of the evening was
a Christmas shadow play - Night of
Miracles - telling the Christmas
story by scripture and music.
Marilyn Maclntyre, Irene Dickie
. and Ruth Bell were the readers and
Kathy Howald, Nancy Maclntyre,
Anne MacDougall, Doris MacKin-
non and Rena Forster acted in the
shadows. Wilma Clarke played the
piano for the carols. It showed how

Jesus was born. The man
comprehended the mistake he had
made, by not giving them a room in
his inn. He worried over what he
had done. If only he had known, he
would have acted differently.
We may be in the same position
and turn away a stranger that needs
help, or love and compassion. By
doing so we lose an opportunity to
serve the Lord. He may come to us
at any place or time. Let us not
close the door on him.
Grace Gibson, who chaired the
program, read "The Gift of Love at
Christmas." Another reading, The
Priceless Gift of Christmas, showed
how a heavenly gift sent by God -
the Holy Christ Child - for us to
enjoy doesn't cost a penny.The gift
is within the reach of all; receive it
and pass it around - The gift of
)Love.
Program participants included
Annie Shiells, Grace Gibson, Ilene
Lemoine and Mrs. Pritchard, with
Elsie Houston reading the scripture.
Fifteen members answered the
rollcall by stating how they may
bring cheer to a shut-in.
Allene Bradley read a newspaper
article about a man in Kitchener
who collects tabs from pop cans
and uses the proceeds to buy wheel
chairs for children suffering from
spina bifida. It takes several
thousand to make a pound and
many people are saving tabs as this
UCW is too.

service at the Lucknow United
Church Women Unit 3 Christmas
meeting on Nov. 30. They chose
"Make Room for Christ" as the
theme, with scripture from Luke
and Mark, Christmas readings and
the singing of Christmas hymns.
Everyone took part in a discus-
sion about what crowds out the true
meaning of Christmas and'how ow
celebrations of Christmas can be
adjusted to focus upon its true
meaning.
Anne Anderson, unit leader,
opened the business portion with a
reading "The Priceless Gift of
Christmas". Rollcall was answered

Cecil is recovering from surgery
Well here we are back after a few
hectic weeks. About three weeks
ago Cecil Webster had another
malignant tumor removed, and has
been busy visiting doctors and
specialists. For the next nine weeks
Cecil will be getting Chemo treat-
ments in the K.W. Hospital in
Kitchener as an out-patient.
On Saturday Mayme Wilkins held
her annual cookie exchange. It was
as usual a great success. Along with
her family, a number of friends and
neighbors attended.
Those at the Wilkins' were Janet
Peck and family from Wallaceburg,
Liz and Rebeca Dadson of Ingersoll
and Barbara Wilkins of Paris.
