The Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-12-08, Page 7Bradleys celebrate their 5Oth
by Pat Livingston
Fifty years ago, a young Amber -
ley man and woman were united in
marriage. They would have 10 days
together as husband and wife,
before the groom would return to
his duties in the Royal Canadian
Air Force.
" As Eldon and Allene Bradley
reminisce, they vividly recall the
month of December 1943. Eldon
arrived home on Dec. 10 from the
Eastern Air Command, they were
married on the 16th and he returned
to Moncton, N.B. on the 26th, just
one day after their first Christmas
together.
Allene, the daughter of Mr. and
Mrs. Walter M. .Brown of Amber -
ley, and Eldon, the son of Mr. and
Mrs. John Bradley, also of Amber -
ley, were united in marriage at the
bride's home, by Rev. J.C. Nichol-
son, pastor of the Pine River United
• Church. Allene's sister, Doris
(Michie), and Dr. Murray MacLen-
nan, a Wingham veterinary were
the attendants.
' It would be two years before
Eldon returned home. During those
years, Allene, who was a teacher,
managed to spend one Easter and
two summers with her husband. On
his return, they took up farming on
the 12th Concession of Ashfield
Township. In 1973, they moved to
a new home they had built on Can,-
ning Street, in Lucknow.
• In 1992, after 16 years as "a direc-
tor and adjustor with West
Wawanosh Insurance, Eldon retired
from that position.
They speak proudly of their two
children, Phyllis, a teacher, married
to David Todd, of Stratford; and
John, an anesthetist at Toronto
General. Eldon and Allene have two
grandchildren, Katie and Emma
Todd.
With strong conviction, Eldon
summed it all up saying, "The 50
years of marriage had been just
wonderful!"
The Bradleys were honored on
Nov: 16 when neighbors held a
dinner party, followed by cards, at
the Town Hall. On Nov. 27, family,
friends and relatives gathered at the
Legion for dinner and a program.
