Perth will fo
initial joint meeting with Huron's
steering committee, slated for
Mitchell's town. hall.
With the decision, Perth and
Huron were the -last two counties in
the province to become part of the
district health council system, most
of which have between 15-20 mem-
bers,, Wilbee said initial 'indications
are that .the Huron -Perth DHC will
have 2Q members. .
Huron had decided in favor of a
joint DHC in June, having been
established and completing the
public consultation process earlier
than Perth.
The 21 -member volunteer com-

' from health consumers, 40 per cent
health providers and 20 per cent
municipal government representa-
tives, but that scenario was not
without "healthy" discussion,
Wilbee noted. In the end, the prov-
incially -mandated formula was
okayed by a 1374 vote.
"A district health council is a
community within a community,"
Miller said last week. "It's not. a
bunch of strangers.
"We'll act as a facilitator to the
Ministry of Health, not from the
Ministry of Health," she added..
Seven public consultation meet-
ings were held throughout the
county beginning in August, asking
for feedback from the• county's
residents.
"There was very, very strong
&low t for being a -part of a district
health council," Wilbee said. Out of
, approximately 200 questionnaires
answered and returned, only • two
were negative. •
All along, he added, people
wanted to amalgamate with Huron,
and stay away from Thames Valley
and Grey -Bruce.
