Halloween was theme of OASWT meeting
The fall dinner and meeting of the
Walkerton Branch of the Ontario
Association of Superannuated
Women Teachers was held at St.'
Paul's United church, Walkerton,
on Oct. 27, with 48 members in
attendance. .Halloween was the
theme in decorations and entertain-
ment.
Greetings were extended by Rev.
Oestreicher, minister of St. Paul's
United Church and by the new
president, Verna Sewers of Walker-
ton, who in poetic form, welcomed
everyone and called the roll by
groups. Sophia Hossfeld, in the
devotions expressed the need to
develop a strong faith which in turn
creates love. She concluded with
"Have you hugged anyone lately"?
A few moments of silence helped
express our love and respect for
two loyal members, Laura Taylor of
Kincardine and Myrtle Upshall of
Port Elgin, who passed away in
September.
The minutes of the spring meeting
were read by secretary Wanita
Fletcher, and treasurer Mary
Fleming reported on the finances.
Because local fees are inadequate to
cover expenses, Marion Schlorff
and Pat Anstett moved that the fees
be raised to $4.00, beginning in the
fall of 1994. Jean Hargrave was
welcomed as Hanover's new Key
Teacher, succeeding retiring Audrey
Taylor. Mary Monteith, new Area 1
Director, was unable to be present
but sent her greetings and expressed
her wish that provincial member-
ships be sent in soon after the
spring meeting. She reminded us
that goodwll at the Branch level
should be one of highest priorities.
Guidelines for Goodwill Ambas-
sadors was prepared by the
executive and handed out to the
Key Teachers. A discussion regar-
ding the dividing of our large nine -
group Branch resulted in a motion
by Sophia Hossfeld and Audrey
Taylor that we remain as we are.
They were supported unanimously.
