Sunday, ,Fran Farrell with Jamie, Chris and Carman Farrell, Derrick and Andrea Moulton attended Pumpkin Feast held in Port Elgin, They enjoyed seeing the winning pumpkin and other various vegetables of different weights. Everyone enjoyed the Purple Grove WI meeting held Wednesday at the centre. We all learned a lot from the guest speaker for the evening. Brenda Pawlin, who is a Pharmacist with Umbach Pharmacy in Lucknow, spoke on topics con- cerning vitamins, minerals and the taking of medication drugs. 1 am PURPLE GROVE sure we all came away more knowledgeable on the subject. Thank you to Shirley MacDonald who convened the meeting and presented Brenda with a gift to show our appreciation for coming out to speak to us at Purple Grove. .Warmest congratulations are extended to Don and Anne McCosh who celebrated their 55th wedding anniversary Friday, Oct. 8th. Visitors of Don and Anne McCosh were Gladys Arnold, Mrs. Doug MacDonald and Mrs. Jim Brooks. Cheryl and Kyle Bridge spent Wednesday visiting her sister Wen- dy Hooisma of Hanover. \\ Kay Collins has just rettlnted home from four' lovely days on a Pus trip spent at Gananoquc and the St. Lawrence River. Edna Stanley and Bette McLeod attended the UCW meeting at St. Andrews United Church on Tues- day. Bonnie Boyle spoke to the women about her trip to Russia. Dinner Guests with Edna Stanley were Mac and . Anne Mac Innes, Katherine, Robert and David. Barbara Epp of Vancouver, B.C., visited recently with Mary Anne Kukoly. Mary Anne recently visited Ruby and Frank Colwell of Kincardine, Ruth Colwell of Toron- to, Tracey Moodes of Elmira and Laura Kearns of Preston. John and Joyce Farrell and girls enjoyed the company of Anne and Don McCosh on Tuesday evening for supper. Many from the area attended the Brussels 4-H sheep and calf sale, Sunday Oct. 9th. Kinlough folks honor bride -to -he On Sunday afternoon, Oct. 3, ladies of the area gathered at the Kinlough Anglican basement to honor Valerie Brown with a bridal shower. Diane Wall welcomed everyone followed by a humorous reading; Valerie's Wedding Cake, • Linda Wall conducted a bingo contest and Mary Haldenby had a contest on "How well do you know ,your body?". Sandra Haldenby read, "What is a Husband?". Mrs. Wall then read the address to the bride. Assisting the bride were Kim Wall and Sherry Taylor. Julia Hal- denby, Jennifer Wall and Kara Wall helped deliver the gifts to the bride- to-be. A humorous contest about the bride followed and a .delicious lunch was served. Mr. and Mrs. Lome Moon of here and their friend, Irma Couglin of Cambridge, spent two weeks in Newfoundland and were visitors with Lome and Jessie's friends at S. Johns and Georgetown. Last week's Ripley Lions cash calender lottery winners were Mac Osborne, Hanover; Harvey Wilson, Kincardine; Evelyn Johnson, Port Elgin; Jeremy Thompson, Ripley; Stuart Eadie, Holyrood and Dave Surridge, Hanover, all with $50 each. Betty Bushell, Myrtle Percy, Bessie Maulden and Isabel Thompson attended the Presbyterian WMS Thankoffering meeting in Teeswater on Thursday evening. Friends from here attended the 55th wedding anniversary tea for Mr. and Mrs. Don McCosh in Ripley. We send our best wishes to them on this occasion. Bessie Maulden spent Thanksgiving at Goderich with her cousin, Madeline Edward. Holyrood WI The Holyrood Women's Institute met at the hall on Thursday after- noon for the October meeting. Joan Murray presided and following the opening Betty Smith gave a reading on Thanksgiving. . The rollcall • was "your • favorite quilt pattern". An invitation was accepted" to the 85th anniversary of the Lucknow Institute on Nov. 9. • There will be Remembrance Day Service on Nov. 11. In place of a bazaar, a special collection will be taken at the November meeting. For the program, Agnes Hodgins gave a reading. Betty Smith gave the history of quilting and introduced Mrs. Underwood of Southampton who spoke and showed slides on quilts. She is writing a book on quilts. A social time brought the meeting to a close. Bible Society On Tuesday evening the annual Bible Society meeting was held at in the Pentecostal Church here. President Erlma Haldenby presided and opened with a reading. Pastor and Mrs. Donna favored with a duet. The Bible Society representative showed a video on the work of the Bible Society. Canvassers were appointed to make their usual call at our homes for your donation to a much needed cause. The scripture was read and suitable hymns sung. Prayer closed the meeting.
