Bruce County OMAF
STO annual meeting
The annual meeting of the Bruce
Unit of the Superannuated Teachers
of Ontario (STO) was held at Bruce
Township Community Centre,
Underwood, Sept. 15.
President LevJis Coffman presided
for -the meeting and welcomed 95
guests.
A minutes silence was observed
in memory of Cyril Buchanan,
Percy Brydges and William Tooke,
deceased members since the last
meeting.
Eleven newly retired teachers
were introduced. These were Mary
Cameron, Gordon Cayley, Betty
Elliott, David Ferguson, Marie
Ferguson, Violet Hill, Beverley
Leifsa, Mary MacKay, William
Turvill, Gerald Weppler, and Bill
Petter. Many read an interesting
anecdote of their teaching years.
Marion Lethbridge, District 10
president, brought greetings.
As this year is the 25th anniver-
sary of STO an interesting display
of books used in 1968 was enjoyed
by all. •
Jessie Robinson, Laura Hendry,
Margaret Rutile, Irene Neil and
Mary Shier were winners of small
STO prizes awarded for anniversary
contests.
The highlight of the meeting was
the message brought by STO
provincial president Mae Hill. She
outlined the structure of the or-
ganization, the years she had spent
on the executive, the benefits of
belonging to the professional group,
the necessity of encouraging new
retirees to join in order to promote
a strong voice. All present were left
with a challenge to recruit mem-
bers.
Throughout her presentation, Mae
quoted limericks written by, local
members Mae McConkey and the
late Myrtle Upshall.
To close the meeting matters of
fund dispersal, future direction of
Bruce Unit and new executive were
discussed. The current executive is
from the Paisley district..
