Len Lobb Review committee established to investigate HPRCS school closing by Michele Greene Huron -Perth Roman Catholic Separate School Board trustees took one step closer to closing St. Joseph's School, Stratford. Trustees voted to establish a Community Accommodation Review Committee which will investigate the option of closing the school and finding another school for those students to attend. Stratford Trustee Ron Marcy argued that St. Joseph's School, Kingsbridge should be the school considered for closure and that the community accommodation review is a waste of time. Both schools had a first day of school enrolment of 93 students. However, the Kingsbridge school has two grades more than the Stratford school. When the enrolments are compared after the students from the two extra grades are removed, Marcy said the Kingsbridge enrolment is much smaller and the school, north of Goderich, should be considered for closure before the Stratford school. Stratford which makes the savings viable,” said Dr. James Brown; director of education. Stratford Trustee Michael Dack wondered if the community associ- ation review committee would meet at St. Aloysius School, Stratford so parents could see the school which their children could attend. John McCauley, superintendent, responded by saying the parking is adequate at that school. Also, transportation costs of busing the Kingsbridge school to a neighboring school, perhaps in another town, would be higher than to transport the Stratford students to another Stratford school.. Marcy said the community association review committee, to which he and Uniondale area trustee Bernard ' Murray were appointed, would be a waste of time for all involved. There was no such committee • when St. Patrick's School, Dublin and St. Columban School were twinned. "I don't see the point p going through with it before going throughthe facts and figures," he said. Stratford Trustee Betty Jorna wants to see how many students the board may lose if it closes the school before making a decision on the matter. Stratford Trustee John Devlin said the Stratford school in the Queensland area is the fastest growing part of the city. The enrolment may well increase in the future.
