Help prevent child abuse 'fp the editor: October is .Child Abuse Preven- tion Month in Ontario and the Huron County Community Child Abuse Coordinating 'Committee (CCACC) would like to encourage the community to become involved in increasing its awareness of this issue. Several articles will be published by agencies and organizations working with children throughout the month, including those who can give supportive counselling to children who have been abused. With the recentsexual assault con- viction of a volunteer Scouting Leader the CCACC would like to offer an evening workshop on the issue of child abuse to volunteers working with children. There are many wonderful, dedicated volun- teers in our communities providing leadership to children in recreational sports, Scouting, Guides, Church Youth Groups etc. These volunteers are to be com- mended for the work they do. We would like to offer education and support in the form of a workshop dealing with the signs and symptoms of abuse, how and where to report concerns or disclosures, and the. volunteer's role as it relates to their involvement with children. The performance of (Kids on the Block) a puppet program currently presented in all Huron County public and separate elementary schools will also be part of the program. Speakers will TO THE EDITOR include representatives of the Children's Aid Society, Ontario Provincial Police and the CCACC. There will be ample time for ques- tions and discussion. We encourage all volunteers working with children to send representatives to this evening workshop Tues., Oct. 19, 1993 at the Clinton Town Hall from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. There will be no cost and refreshments will be provided. Please call and confirm your attendance to the CCACC 524- 5461. Come for the children. Yours Sincerely, Debbie Selkirk, Chairperson, Education and Public Relations Committee CCACC. Day Centre needs your help too 'from page 5 grant; and we shall have to increase our local fundraising activities to overcome this $3,500 loss of in- come. As 1993 draws to a close, we are once more asking you to help us to meet our goal for a total of $10,000 in donations from our community. You support will enable us to con- tinue to offer high quality program- ming to our clients.
