Local artists to exhibit work
Three talented local artists will be
part of an exciting exhibition, the
first event to lie held in the newly -
renovated Bayfield Town Hall. The
Huron Society of Artists, a group of
area painters, sculptors .and
craftspersons, is mounting its an-
nual fall showing as a prelude to
the very popular "Artists at Work"
Studio Tour.
William Creighton paints water-
colors of local landscapes, wildlife
and flowers from the wild and from
his perennial garden at his home
and studio near Belfast. He says
that his art is a natural extension of
his love for living creatures and
their environment. The painter's
exhibited work will be similar to
his pieces which have been featured
by major wildlife grodps in their
fundraising„ efforts.
As well, viewers will be treated to
a display of new one -of -a -kind
work in glass • by Dungannon's

shows t( ._ cancelled
Due to the early summer
outbreak of Bovine Viral Diar-
rhea (BVD), the Seaforth
Agricultural Society has decided
to cancel all open cattle shows
and 4-H dairy and beef shows at
the Seaforth Fall Fair. •
Ross-"Ribey, President of the
Society, said it was a decision
that was not made lightly and
will not be popular, with
everyone. "But as an Agricul-
tural Society promoting agricul-
ture and good agricultural prac-
tices we feel we have a moral
responsibility to opt for the
safety of our exhibitors' cattle."
The Agricultural Society is
more than willing to work with
the Ontario Ministry of Agricul-
ture and Food, 4-H leaders and
members to, come up with alter-
native activities for the 4-H beef
and dairy members at the fair
Oct. 8 and 9:
"I hope they will accept this
challenge and turn the cancel-
lation into an opportunity to try
something new," said Mr. Ribey.
