Countdown's on for IPM
BRANT TOWNSHIP - There's a specialday for every day at the
International Plowing Match -opening Sept. 21 in Bruce County.
Tuesday, opening day, is Scottish Day; Wednesday is Western Day;
Thursday is Seniors Day; Friday is Children's Day and Saturday is,
Family Day.
The special days have been designated by the special events commit-
tee; led by David Thomson, reeve of the host township.
Visitors are invited to dress in costume for the various days, par-
ticularly Scottish and Western. Thomson says the main emphasis will
be the types of entertainment people can see on the main stage.
It's fair time!
Great entertainment
This weekend, Sept. 17 • to 19,' is the 130th Lucknow Fall Fair,
A busy weekend is. planned for fair -goers • kicking off with events
Friday evening •in the arena, when the Bruce Bushell Family accom-
panied by Allan Grant will sing and entertain. The Bushclls have two
daughters who will step dance.
The Huron -Bruce Swingers will get your toes tapping and maybe
moving as they demonstrate line and square,dancing.
On Saturday afternoon, following the parade, Lynn Russworm'.s
Jamboree Reunion Band will perform all afternoon on the outside stage.
See and hear some old favorites from early CKNX days.
The famous Magic Dan, a strolling magician and balloonologist, will
be on hand especially for the youngsters. Magic Dan is well-known in
Toronto where he has been a part of the Santa Claus parade for many
years, and has performed at the CNE and Ontario Place.
On Saturday night, Magic Dan will also entertain with his son, at the
fair dance.
And of course, the "Strike it Rich" draws commence at 9 p.m.. and the
Miss Mid -Western Ontario Pageant crowning takes place at about 10:15
. p.m.
The entertainment is only one part of the fair, but a great dealof
effort has been put into making this year's the best ever. For other
events see the advertisement in last week's Sentinel.
Lots for the juniors
Due to the increased number of exhibitors in the Junior Arena classes
at the Lucknow Fall Fair, junior membership numbers must be used this
year. However, Gloria Messenger, secretary of the Lucknow Agricul-
tural Society, says, "There is no charge."
Numberswill be assigned over the phone (528-2576)or at the arena
from Thursday, Sept. 16 at noon or when the entry is brought to the
arena. Special yellow entry tags and forms are available at the schools
or at the arena. For more information call Elizabeth Irvin 529-7594 or
Mrs. Messenger at 528-2576.
There are many more programs for area youngstersthis year.
Scarecrow Building
'On Friday evening the Scarecrow Building Competition, open to
elementary aged juniors, will take place.
You must be registered at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the arena: The first five
teams (two to.a team) to register will be accepted.
Straw, will be provided, but entrants must bring their own costumes
d-the-searterows-MUSTT be -self supporting: -Sounds -Tike -a -lot -of -fun
and don't forget those cash prizes.
Bicycle Rodeo
After the parade on, Saturday, a bicycle rodeo, open to all ages, will
take • place at the CommunityCentre parking lot. Get yourbike toned up
and ready to participate.
Garden Tractor Rodeo
Around 2:30 p.m. this event for youngsters 12 years and up will get
underway. All they need to do is bring their skills.and get involved.
Good.prizes will be awarded.
• Pedal Tractor Pull
This is a favorite every year with the younger children. There are
three weight categories and medals and ribbons will be presented to
everyone.
Pet Show
Pet lovers are reminded of this show after the parade. Mrs. Messenger
said that prize lists .and posters are di§played at the local schools with
information on this junior event. •
Juniors or parents wanting to take pets or bicycles home may be
stamped at the gates for free re-entry to the grounds.
No numbers are required for outside classes or the scarecrow
competition.
Midway: bigger, better
The midway is larger this year fo ose who like the rides and fun
games. The Lucknow Agricultural ociety hopes that BIG A's stay will
be successful, as it is the only way that the Society will be able, to have
them return next year.
The midway will run Friday night, all day Saturday, and Sunday
afternoon as long as it is worthwhile for them to do so.

Will try to reach amicable . agreement
ASHFIELD TOWNSHIP - During
their regular meeting on Sept: 7,
Ashfield Township council iis-
cussed issues regarding legal access
to Lots 11 •to 15, Plan 582, with
several•landowners from the Green
Acres Cove Beach area.
Mr. and Mrs. James Neufeld,
Ludmilla Deemek and Ed Stern
indicated to council their wish to
establish private driveways on to
the property off of the David Drive
road allowance. A possible purchase
of part of the road allowance was
also proposed by those owners.
Mr. and Mrs. Harold Herman,
David Paterson and Vic Nowak
made a presentation to council
expressing their washes to have that
area of unassumed road allowance
(approximately .68 acres) preserved
as much as possible for recreational
purposes. They, indicated that they
would 'be opposed to any proposed
sale of part of that road allowance.
During the meeting, Linda
Andrew, clerk -treasurer; clarified
that David Drive was the legal
access for Lots '11 to 15, Plan 582
and that the land owners abutting
David Drive were entitled to create,
driveways to their properties.
Both delegations agreed to discuss
a possible arrangement to provide a
Chamber of Commerce plans
to bestow new annual award
The Lucknow and District Cham-
ber of Commerce announced last
week a- new -annual -award -that will
be presented in 1993.
Nominations are being accepted
for enthusiastic community mem-
bers who have contributed
• meaningfully to local endeavors on
a volunteer basis. The application
forms areavailable at The Lucknow
Sentinel office. Nominations will be
accepted up to 4:30 p.m. Oct. 5.
