The Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-09-08, Page 9Crystalizers top of league
The Lucknow Crystalizers have
taken the 1993 regular season title
for the Lucknow Slo Pitch League.
They led the 10 - team league
from the start of the season and
were never any lower than tied for
first. Their 15 wins against 3 losses
was one better than both the Lanes-
ville Lords and Lucknow Kinsmen
teams, who finished the season with
identical 14 and 4 records.
Two time defending champion
Lanesville was awarded second
place by virtue of their two wins
over the Kinsmen team. The Crys-
talizerS and Kinsmen matched up in
the final game of the season with
identical 14 and 3 records.
The booming bats of the Crys-
talizers lead them to a clear cut
thumping of the Kinsmen team and
a lock on first place. With that they
were able to shake off the "always
a bridesmaid, never a bride" label,
after having finished second the
previous two seasons. By- going 3
and 1 in their final four ,games,
including a win over the Kinsmen,
the Lanesville team was able to pull
themselves from third place into
second. The Kinsmen team
meanwhile folded up like a cheap
tent losing two of their final three
games and had to settle for third
place.
There was a four --team scramble
for the fourth and fifth place stan-
dings which would put those 2
teams into the A round of the

playoffs. Port Albert made the
biggest gain with a 4 and 2 record
to end the season at 10 and 8,
taking fourth,, while the Lucknow
Six Shooters slipped into the fifth
and final spot with a 9 and 9
record. The Holyrood Trojans came
in sixth spot for home field ad-
vantage in the B side of the
playoffs, although finishing the
season with an identical 8 and 10
record to the Rapid City Rangers.
They were awarded sixth after a
coin toss as they had split their
regular season match up.
Defending B champions, Kinloss
ended up in eighth spot with a 5
and 13 record while the Lucknow
Black Angels and the Belfast
Rebels ended up in a ninth place tie
with 4'and 14 records. The Black
Angels however got the nod for
ninth place again by a coin toss
placing BelfasOn the, final slot. The
Black Angels reached that position
by winning three of their final eight
games after having a rather unsuc-
cessful first half.
The teams are now competing in
playoff format with the top five
teams in the A round robin, while
the bottom five teams are on the B
'side. The two top teams of each
division will then play a best two
out of three series to determine the
respective A and B champions.
