HomeMy WebLinkAboutThe Lucknow Sentinel, 1993-09-01, Page 15Pee Wees' end with. 13 - 12 record This past weekend the Lucknow Pee Wee ball team travelled to Listowel on Saturday -to compete in the WOBA consolation tournament. Teams represented were Ripley (A&B), .Hanover, Listowel, Markdale, Exeter and Owen Sound. Lucknow played Owen Sound in the first game and Exeter in the second game losing both to eliminate the team from the double elimination tournament. In the first game, Owen Sound scored three in the first, five in the second, two in the third and one in the sixth for their 11 runs. The second inning was Owen Sound's as in addition to their five runs on two hits, they had two errors and one walk. Lucknow scored their rains in the first with one, four in• the second, and one in the fourth. Pitching for Lucknow were Justin Brown and Nathan Vander Klippe, who gave up six hitg, four walks and struck out four. II SPORTS Lucknow vs Exeter e second game was a must -win situs for Lucknow and Exeter. As in the first game the defence had an inning where the team gave up five runs leading the Exeter team to a win. Exeter scored two in the first, five in the third, and three is the third. Lucknow's offence sputtered again as they only collected five runs; three in the first, one in the fifth and one in the sixth. With the second loss, Lucknow was knocked out of the tourney. • Pitching for Lucknow were Paul Turner and Nathan Vander Klippe who allowed six hits, four walks and struck out five. The teams has completed their first season in the WOBA and is looking forward to next year. The overall record in the season, including regular schedule, tour- nament play and exhibition games was 11-12. Exhibition play The Ripley Mosquitos handed Lucknow a 12 - 1 loss on Aug. 24. The pitching staff allowed six hits, eight walks, and struck out three. The offence could only col- lect one run on two hits, and three walks. Ripley scored runs in all but two innings of play, `while Lucknow scored their single in the fourth. In the second game of the double header, Ripley Pee Wee's dropped the Lucknow team by a score of 14 - 6. Ripley scored in all innings on 14 walks, and eight hits. Lucknow's offence outhit Ripley collecting 10 hits and six walks. Some costly base running errors took the offence out of two innings that could have led to better things. Holly Andrew is an eager back catcher as Lynn Mann comes up to bat. From the look on Lynn's face, as she takes off for first, she must have been out. The 6, 7 and 8 year olds recreational ball team played their parents in a windup game last week.
