County Holstein show
has area winners
Walkerton --Walkerton hosted., the
Bruce County Holstein Show at the
agriculture buildings last Wednes-
day.
The premier breeder award went
to Lanydone Farms Ltd. of
Chepstow; premier exhibitor was
Patience Holsteins of Mildmay; fust
or second year exhibitor was won
by Paul Leis of Elmwood and high
BCA award went to Zetterdale
Farms of Chepstow.
Best uddered female was Mah-
deen Farms Ltd. of Ripley;
breeder's herd first prize winner
was Lanydone Farms Ltd. of
Chepstow; Progeny of Dam winner
was Zetterdale Farms of Chepstow.
Mature cow grand champion was
Mandeen Farms of Ripley; reserve
grand champion winner was
Patience' Holsteins of Mildmay who
was also the fust prize winner.
Five-year-old winner was Brenda
Inglwae of •Inglwae Farms of
Walkerton; four-year-old winner
was Mandeen Farms of Ripley;
senior three-year-old winner was
Patience Holsteins of Mildmay;
junior three-year-old winner was
Hells -Lea Farms Mildmay; senior
two-year-old winner was Murray
Elliot of Walkerton; junior two-
year-old winner was Patience

for the dry cow category of any
age; junior breeder's herd winner

winter yearling winner was Wil-

cardine won the junior yearling

SWAN . dedication set for
this weekend in Goderich
SWAN - Stop Woman Abuse
Now, wants to remind local people
about the' realityof violence toward •
.women and the need for an ongoing
commitment to change.
The plaque will read; In honor of
our mothers, our daughters, our
sisters - stop woman abuse now."
In 1989, 199 women were -mur-
dered in domestic situations in
Canada. Wife battering is being
called a national epidemic with over
2.5 million women assaulted by
heir male partners.
SWAN, is a Huron County com-
mittee of more . than 40 .profes-
sionals who represent a full range
of health care, police, educational
and children's services who are
working toward the reduction,
prevention and eventual elimination
of all forms of woman abuse.
`SWAN invites everyone to take
part in the Goderich plaque
dedication ceremony. The event will

In an effort to diminish the cul-
tivation and subsequent trafficking
of marijuana in the counties of
Grey and Bruce, the Owen Sound
Detachment of the Royal Canadian
Mounted Police are seeking the
public's assistance in locating il-
legally cultivated marijuana.
A great number of illegal crops
are planted along fence lines, in
areas of fields which are remote or
unused and on farms that are
rented. You can aid the RCMP in
locating this illegal harvest by:
walking your own fence line,
checking unused lands bordering
your farm or just otherwise repor-
ting any suspicious activities you
might observe, such as persons
entering wooded areas carrying jugs
of water or shovels, or leaving
these areas carrying plastic bags.
Points to remember are that the
growing season for the marijuana
plant is June to September, with
harvest taking place in early Sep-
tember. Locally, plants may attain a
height of four to six feet on.

being noticeably "brighter green",
