Over 150 4-H members from
Bruce and Grey Counties par-
ticipated in the annual joint county
judging competition at Hanover
Raceway, Aug. 17. Competitors
judged four new classes this year -
fire extinguisher, sweet corn, knit-
ting, and fast foods - along with
traditional classes of beef heifers,
dairy cows, market hogs, hay and
I.D. quiz.
Julie Robinson, of Kincardine,.
obtained the high aggregate score
among Bruce County competitors.
The Bruce County Junior Farmers
presented her with a wrist watch for
this achievement. The Bruce County
Pork Producers gave Julie a clip-
board and calculator for placing. top
in the senior category. Julie gave
the best reasons overall and was
given a pen and pencil set from
Don Simpson Insurance for her
skills. She also received the senior
lifeskills judge award donated by
Bruce Centre, South and East
Women's Institute Districts.
Heather Farrell, of Ripley, came
first in the intermediate category.
Bruce Tractor and Lawn Care
presented her and with a clipboard
a' calculator. Brett Thompson of
Kincardine was top novice judge
and novice . reason giver. He
received the CNE shield and a
clipboard and a calculator donated
by Sprucedale Agromart for this
accomplishment.
Honors for high beef judge went
to Mandy Farrell of Ripley who
received a trophy from Bruce Coun-
ty Cattlemen's Association and a
halter from Northern Lights
Limousin Club. The Grey -Bruce
Simmental Association presented
Mandy with a clock radio for
giving thebest reasons in the beef
class.
Joe Russwurmfrom Mildmay
showed his expertise in dairy
judging by being the best judge and
giving the best reasons for the
class. He got a trophy from the
Bruce County Cream Producers and
a halter from the Bruce County
AM 920's barn dance plays
in Goderich this weekend
The AM 920 Country Cavalcade
and Barn Dance plays Goderich on
Saturday; Aug. 28.
Sporting a slightly new name to
reflect the changing face of country
music, the Country Cavalcade and
Barn Dance works in several ways.
Providing the kind of entertainment
seldom found today, the show ap-
peals to country music fans of all
ages. The Country Cavalcade and
Barn Danceshowcases and helps to
develop local artists. Finally,- the
show acts as a fundraiser in the
community. The proceeds from the
Goderich show will be directed to
the Alexandra Marine & General
Hospital .by the Goderich. Lioness
Club.
No two shows are ever alike
because new musicians are added
for each performance. One person
who has been part of all our shows
in the past decade is Ernie King.
Ernie has performed on the CKNX
Barn Dance since 1948, and is
looking forward to returning to
Goderich.
Also on the show are two
renowned bands. Detour, featuring
the Williamson brothers, play a mix

Richard Knechtel, well known
throughout midwestern Ontario,
joins Am.920's morning personality
Steve Peyton, the Teeswater Con-
nection vocal ,duo, and fiddler,
Michelle Lubineicki,- on stage.
When Doc Cruickshank, founder
of CKNX Radio, -started the Barn
Dance in 1937, little did he know
that the show would still be on the
road 56 years later. Through the
years Tommy Hunter, Al Cherney
and Larry. Mercey performed on the
show. In fact; 7 of the first 30
inductees of the Canadian Country
Music Hall of Fame have played on
the CKNX Barn Dance.
Celebrating a great tradition and
building the future with local talent,
the AM 920 Country Caivacade and
Dam Dance plays on Saturday,
August 28 at the Goderich Com-
munity Centre. Show time is 8:00
p.m. Tickets are $10 in advance and
$12 at the door. For ticket infor-

Holstein Association,
The intermediate lifeskills judge
was Ian Smith of Wingham. Scott
Hammett of Dobbinton was top
novice lifeskills- judge. Both com-
petitors.xeeeived a clipboard and
calculator from Bruce Centre, South
and East Women's Institutes
Districts.
Many sponsors provided incen-
tives for the participants. In addition
to the donors listed above, the
planning committee would like to
thank all the sponsors for their
contributions. Those donating to
Bruce County competitors include
Thompson Feed Mill, The Beefway,
Teeswater Creamery and Pine River
Cheese, Formosa Mutual Insurance
and Coca-Cola Bottling Company.
The South Bruce Cow -Calf Cjub
and the Grey County 'fief
Improvement Association jointly
sponsored the drink bottles provided
for all competitors and volunteers.
Grant's Valumart again assisted
with snacks.
Swim team
competes in
final meet
On Aug. 21, the entire Lucknow
Swim Team consisting of 15 team
members travelled to Mitchell to
compete in the .finals.
The day was cool and yet the
entire team improved times in their
individual and relay races in the
eight -lane pool. Ribbons were won
by many of the swimmers.
The coaches . Sharon Askes,
Shauna Andrew, and Lori Exel are
very proud of the accomplishments,
positive attitudes, team cohesiveness
and sportsmanship of the team
throughout the season.'
Congratulations on a very suc-
cessful summer. Thank -you is ex-,
tended to all parents .of .the swim
team members for all of their
contributions and support.
