(photo submitted) Ripley man is safe after boat overturns in rough waters A 36 -year-old Ripley man is safe and sound after his boat overturned and sank in rough waters last Fri- day afternoon. The man had been about a half - kilometre out from shore when his 14 foot fibre glass boat was over- turned around 3 p,m. A witness who saw the incident through binoculars called the OPP and said the lone occupant of the boat couldn't be seen. Both OPP and town police officers responded and the Russel T was called out. While searching, a woman arrived at the north pier and spoke to OPP Staff Sergeant Al Neville. She thought the boater may have been her husband. Staff Sergeant Neville said he was going to take the woman to Rotary Park where they planned to see if her husband's car and boat trailer were still there. As they were about to leave, her husband, the missing boater, got out of a car. Staff Sergeant Neville said the man, wearing a wet suit and a life jacket, had swam to the beach where someone gave him a ride to the north pier. "It's a good example of overstretching the capabilities of your boat and your (abilities]," Staff Sergeant Neville said. He said it may have looked like fun to go out in the high waves but it was too dangerous for such a small boat.
