TO THE EDITOR
To the editor,
As the owners of Lot 17, Conces-
sion 5, Kinloss, which lies directly
east of the Donegan property, and
being opposed to the proposed
gravel pit, we would like to offer
our gratitude to the many (over 70)
who turned, out in opposition at the
OMB mediation meeting.
Although the Lucknow Sentinel's
coverage touched on much that took
place, no mention was made of the
township reeve's excellent com-
ments which spoke to the question
of democracy, given that the elected
council, reeve and local residents
are opposed to the pit. In other
words, no means no!
In a world seemingly jaded by
political/business alliances that put
the electorate/taxpayer last, it would
seem imperative that the public's
opinion be law.

Canvass for Arthritis
Society beings in Sept.
To the editor:
September is the month of fund
raising for Arthritis Society.
Arthritis, Canada's most prevalent
chronic disease, is an umbrella°term
for more than 190 different
rheumatic conditions; characterized
by inflammatory symptoms;. If left
undiagnosed and untreai the
disease will lead to permanent
disability and intense recurring pain.
As,yet, there is no cure.
Arthritis can attack everybody,
from a toddler, a college student, a
mother or father in there best age
and prematurely confine a
grandparent to a hospital bed.
Arthritis - isa serious health
problem affecting nearly four mil-
lion Canadians - ,men, women and
children.
Is there a hope? Yes. Thanks to
nearly four decades of Arthritis'
Society sponsored research, tremen-
dous achievements in diagnosis and
treatment have been made. We have
come a long way since 1948.
Though the cure remains elusive for
many types of arthritis, we now
know how to control what were
once some of the most prevalent
forms of disease. Better medication,
as well as improved diagnostic and
treatment procedures =° all the con-
sequence of arthritis research - have
• helped to dramatically reduce pain
and disability.
Your donation is essential. The
''Arthritis Society can improve the
quality of life for countless
Canadians. Your dollars are crucial
to what we can hope to achieve
over the next five years. Take the
time to talk with our volunteer
canvassers. We need your help to
give a young child a much better
chance of ' growing up sturdy of
limb, a young mother can care for
her baby, in spite of her arthritis;
and a worker can aspire to a steady
employment, all because of your
gift.
Your donation is tax deductible
and confidential. Although Septem-
ber has been designated national
Arthritis Month in Canada,
donations big or small are welcome
year 'round.

Campaign Chairperson.
