few years is enhancing:the show for
its bread and butter customers --
farmers.
"That's what's been lacking at the
IPM. We want farmers to come and
see every piece of equipment he
may want to see demonstrated,"
Biermans says.
Typically, most farmers buy
equipment without being able to
compare its performance to the
competition.
Machines in Motions will change
that. The hands-on show will
complement the usual static farm
equipment displays normally seen at
the IPM.
"We will have sample wagons so
everyone can view grain quality."
Biermans expects equipment
manufacturers to be on their toes
too. Once a crop has been
harvested, he foresees farmers
following combines through the
field to see how the machine has
performed in terms of how much of
the crop has been left in the field.
The IPM has planted an extra.

Planning for Machines in Motion
has been so intense that the
committee planted trial plots over
the past two years "to see what
would be ready for the match."
STEWARDSHIP
While Biermans is a member of
the Machines in Motion committee,
his real passion is the
environmental showcase at the IPM.
The showcase is to show
urbanites that farmers are
responsible and changing (or have
changed) farming practices for the
betterment of the environment. It
will also show farmers not already
using conservation tillage what
they're doing to the soil.
There will be a section on
windbreaks presented by the
Saugeen Valley Conservation
Authority.
Nine cover crops have been
planted to show the benefits of
nitrogen contribution and erosion
protection.
The showcase will also have
displays of the various types of
tillage equipment available.
Biermans is particularly keen to
show people the rainfall simulator.
It will show what happens to
topsoil when it rains A) on bare
soil, 13) soil with, crop residue, and
C) grass sod.
Runoff will be gathered in glass
jars to show the "phenomenal"
difference.
The IPM runs from September 21
to 25.
