It is good to see Mary (Mrs. Eldon) Austin out and about fol- lowing back surgery in University Hospital, London, on July 28. She was able to return home on Aug. I. Recent holiday visitors with Claude and Sandra D'Aoust, and family were Claudette and Gary Selles, of Chelmsford, and Mirjn and Karen Chaudry, of Whitefish, Northern Ontario. Congratulations to Casey Hendriks and Catherine Lynn Douglas who were married on July 30 in Belmore. Several from this area attended the reception held in their honor- at the Belmore • Com-. munity Centre. Many from this area enjoyed the many beautiful exhibits and handmade articles on -display at the Lucknow Craft Festival on July 30 and 31. Congratulations to Tom Culbert, of Dungannon, one of 75 musicians taking part in the Fiddler's Jam- boree held at the Lucknow Arena on Aug. 1. Tom played several selections on the violin during an eight-hour program of toe -tapping music. It was enjoyed by all. Several from this area attended stag and does at the Auburn Com- munity Centre for Harry Boyle and Cathy Williamson on July 31, and for Richard Ireland ' and Pamela Rosekat on Aug. 7. Congratulations to both couples. Recent visitors with Joe and Teresa Courtney were Rev. Raphael O'Loughlin, C.S.B., of Houston, Texas and Charlie McLean and Betty Taylor of Burlington. A large crowd attended the Old Time Dance at the Senior Centre on Aug. 6 with dance music provided by "The Purple Grovers". Murray Cardiff, George Cardiff and son Kyle, of Toronto, spent the week with their father and grandfather, George Cardiff, Sr. klis daughter, Audrey of •St. Paul, visited on Sunday. Alvin and Joyce Moran had their granddaughters Meaghan and Melanie Moran, of London, visit with them at their trailer at Summer House Park, Miller Lake, returning home to. Dungannon to take in the Dungannon Fair and Family Fun Days. The girls enjoyed rides on the midway and the special treats only grandparents can give. Farmers were happy to see a good rain and it gave them a chance to attend the other festivities. Denise Black, daughter of Paul and Connie Black, was crowned Ambassador of the Fair. First run- nerup was Teresa Jefferson, daughter of Wanda Webster and the late Bob Jefferson, with second runnerup and Miss Friendship being Joyc McWhinney, daughter of Bill and Ruby McWhinney. The prince, Justin Boel, and princess, Stacey Wilson (chosen by ballot) were also crowned. This was followed by a teen dance. Saturday dawned bright with sunshine. The midway opened at 10 a.m with the Fiddler's Jamboree starting around 12:30 p.m. Special thanks to all the musicians, and in particular to Don Nicholson and his sister, Helen. Master of ceremonies was Dave Chittick. The fair dance took place at 9 p.m. with music by "Double Ex- posure" in the tent and D.J. Mhgsy Music, in the hall. Sunday's parade .started at Brindley's Sales Yard at 11 a.m. Ron Alton was master of ceremonies and did an excellent job. Ninety-five tractors took part in the antique tractor pull, pulling Hendriks' "Stoneboat to Nowhere". This was up 23 tractors from last year. Winners will be announced next week. Winners of the pork draw were: Wesley,. Rivett, son of Duane and Nancy, of Dungannon; • and Al Shepherd, Lucknow. They each won a half pig, cut and wrapped by Mabon's Abattoir, Dungannon. We ask that you phone Mar- garet Errington 529-7270 or Teresa Courtney 529-7189 again next week. 4;H NEWS For the Love of Horses On July 17 the Lucknow 4 -FI horse club met at Sandra and Kath- ryn Alton's, where. they had their second practice judging competition to get ready for the real thing, Sandra then brought out. Dusty and we put the bridle on the proper way and took it off the proper way. Amy then talked about the Preaver Points, Karen then showed us different bits. We talked about our Funday and the fair. On Aug. 2 the club had a funday. Everyone who came brought their horses. Our classes were showmanstnp, pleasure, barrel racing and pole bending. We had lunch, then thank Carvelle for being our judge. We then went swimming in Mer- lene Bergmans pond. Everyone did a superjob and had a great day.
