August 11. 19"93 Dungannon news Black family holds first reunion after 36 years The Dungannon Agriculture Hall was the setting. for the Black Family Reunion on Aug. 1, with an attendance ,of 140' descendants of William John Black and Margaret Sproul. Out of this family of 15, there are four survivors - Case Black of Kitchener, who was unable to attend; Elmer Black of Ashfield Township, who had the distinction of being the eldest gentleman present; Margaret Glenn, who was the eldest lady, and Ruth Johnstone, both of Goderich. This family gathering, spear- headed by Paul and Connie Black, was last held in 1957 - an absence of 36 years. Family photos and memorabilia from the past was greatly enjoyed by older family members, while the younger folk enjoyed a baseball game and engaged in other sport activities. A bounteous smorgasbord supper was served at 5 p.m. Preliminary plans were made for this to become an annual event. Dungannon/Nile UCW The Dungannon/Nile UCW held their July meeting at Maitland Manor,' Goderich, honoring three former members - Hazel Webster, Olive Culbert and Margaret Pritchard who resides at Maple Grove Lodge. An old fashioned hymn sing was led by Margaret Errington, with accompaniment by Elmira Finnigan. Several readings were presented by Willetta McWhinney, Gloria Pearson and Dorothy Pentland. The worship service closed with the Lord's prayer repeated in unison. 'A fruit compote was served, with angel food cake, by tea hostesses Belle Mole and Margaret Errington. Visiting Margo Hodsman was her childhood friend, Belinda; and her husband, David .Erickson!, of Ayl- mer Quebec. .Margo is a newcomer to Dungannon having purchased the Tony Bakker residence on Southampton Street. ' Margo teaches Grade 1 at Brook- side Public School and is dearly hived by her pupils. We welcome Jill and David Soffe, and her mother Wynne Morrison, to our area. They recently took up residence m their new 'home on Huron Road 20, West Wawanosh (between McLeod's and Stevens'). They moved here from Aurora following David's retirement. They are enjoying country living and in particular the friendliness of the people. Jill is in the process of opening the Huron School of Associated Dance Arts in Goderich. She is a fully qualified teacher and examiner with the Canadian Dance Teachers' Association since 1971 and Ballet Consultant to the National Board of CDTA from 1989 to 1992, and stage and ballet member of the British Association of. Teachers of Dancing. -Sympathy isz-.extended_ to the family of Mary Stewart who passed away on July 26 in her 83rd year. She is mourned by her husband Arthur, to who she was married for ' 63 years. -Other survivors are a daughter Edna (Ron) Alton, two sons, Norman (Norma), of London,. and Richard (Leslee), North Bay; a sister Beth (Ken). Hodge and two brothers John and Dick Park, all of Dungannon. _-. �,.. Following interment in Dungan- non Cemetery, the family and friends returned to the Senior Citizen Centre for refreshments. This Centre is the former Pres- byterian Church where Arthur 'and Mary were faithful in attendance. Senior's News In memory of Mary,Stewart, one minute of silence was observed at Dungannon Senior Citizen Centre on Wcdncsday evening July 28. The last Wednesday of each month is birthday celebration time' and July was no exception with the following observers, who were not all present: Nolda Hcndriks,Jack Bosman, Carman Pollock, l-Ielen Russell, Harold Kraemer, Belle Mole, Dorothy Ziegler, Louise Brindley, Cliff Kilpatrick, Eileen Wagner, George Cardiff, Irene Markham, Anne Millar and Dorothy Cuyler. There were eight tables of euchre. Within the winner's circle were Evelyn Errington, Clara Stewart, Stuart Chamney- and Harvey Richardson. The Senior Group was spot- lighted on CKNX on July.29, when reporter Steve Young featured and interviewed several regarding the local bank closure. Wednesday, Aug. 11 saw 11 tables of euchre in play, with Geor- gina Bosman and Mabel Lamont as winning ladies, and Harold Kraemer and Harvey Sproul on the men's team. " Sympathy -'is extended to Elsie Pannabecker on the death of her father, Simon Schroeder, of Ab- botsford, B.C. Elsie and friend Marlene Grieg, of Lucknow, flew to Calgary, spent a day sightseeing at the Stampede, visited friends in Edmonton, and travelled by train to Vancouver. The Schroeder Family Reunion was held in Surrey, B.C., which her father was able to attend, as well as his 88th birthday celebration on July 10, His untimely death occurred 10 days later. Elsie was still visiting family members in that area and was able to attend the funeral ser- vice before her return. Marie Stewart and husband, Bill, attended the 45th reunion of the Grade 9, of the former Lucknow High School. This event was organized by Mary (Maclntyre) McIntosh and Mary (MacMillan) Campbell and was held at the Town Hall. Several trees were planted in Victoria Park to commemorate the occasion. Nineteen members of the former class of 33 attended. Luncheon visitors with Melba and Ed Stiles on Wednesday were Bert and Vera Rowntree and Stanley and Doreen Glaze, former Sunday School classmates of the Adamant Bible Class of Earlscourt United Church, Toronto. Bill Trommer and friend Margaret Graf, of Wardner, B.C. are vacationing with Aileen and' Elmer Trommer. - The Lucknow Fire Department responded to a large barn fire at the farm of Jim Pentland and family on July 30.
