The Lucknow Crystalizers' hope for a perfect season ended last week when they were edged 13-11 by the Kinloss slo pitch team. They do however remain on top of the 10 team league with an impressive 10 and one record which gives them a one game lead over the second place Lucknow Kinsmen team. The Kinsmen posted the best record in the last month with five wins and no losses to hold on to second place. Two-time defending champions Lanesville Lords put in a 4 and 0 month to edge into third place standing. The second -year Rapid City Rollers made the biggest ad- vance moving from 9th place to 4th by way of their five wins against one loss during the last month. They Holyrood Trojans have slipped into 5th place, having gone 1 and 4 since the last report. Port Albert, Kinloss and the Lucknow Six Shooters are tied for 6th with an identical three wins against five losses. This keeps those teams five and a half games out of 1st place. Belfast, narrowly edged out by the Crystalizers in an earlier game, have slipped to 9th place with the expansion team, Luck - now Black Angels, remaining in 10th place with a 1 and 9 record. The teams are competing in an 18 -game schedule which is to be completed by September 6. The top Lives teams will play a round robin series to determine the Champion. while the bottom five teams will play to determine the 'B' Champion for play-offs. All teams are asked to make up cancelled games as soon as possible. Diamond times should be booked through George Gib- son at 528-6840. Congratulations to the Kinloss team which was the only one of seven Lt'fcknow league teams to get in 'the prize money at the Lucknow Kin Summerfest held in June. Congratulations also to the Lanesville Lords who ad- vanced to the semi-finals in the championship • side of the Belgrave Kinsmen Tournament and the Lucknow Kinsmen who wan theconsolation side of the same tournament. In Goderich last dues., July 13, the Peewee's came ' home with a 12 - 6 win. Pitchers Paul Turner and Nathan VanDerKlippe allowed seven walks, three hits and struck out five God9rich players. The infield defence played well making key plays when 'an' out was needed. Leading the offence was shortstop Troy MacKenzie. Troy scored four runs, collected two singles, one double and a walk going 3 for 3. Players with two runs scored were Paul Turner, Cam Moffat. and Nathan VanDerKlippe. Game 2 In a rescheduled game, Goderich #1, returned to Lucknow on Wed., July 14. The pitching staff of Paul Turner, Nathan VanDerKlippe and Justin Brown turned in a good outing for a 12 - 8 victory. Paul went three innings,, walking one batter, striking out three and allowing no runs. Nathan went 3 2/3 innings allowing eight runs, striking out four,, walking nine, and giving up three hits. Justin faced one batter in the top of the 7th with two out and recorded the out to give the Peewees their 8th win of the season. Record now - 9 2. In a scheduled game played in Dungannon on Sat., July 17, Luck - now recorded their 9th win of the season. Lucknow defeated Lucan by a score of 2.1 to 6. Lucknow's offence scored 14 runs in the bot- tom of the 1st inning, then scored seven runs later in the game to finish with 21. Pitching for Lucknow were Kiel Farrish, Justin Brown and Nathan VanDerKlippe. Lucknow's pitching staff gave up seven hits,. walked five and struck out six over five innings. Lucknow's batters collected 11 hits, walked 10 times, and one hit batter Jonathon MacKinnon. Jeff Andrew, Greg Courtney and Lee Cranston scored three runs each. Lucknows next game will be in Goderich Mon., July 19. Their next home game is Fri., July 30 at 7 p.m. Old Devils host ball tourney The Lucknow Old Devils recently hosted a slow pitch men's tour- nament on July 9 •and, 10. Eight teams participated and the Mildmay Gold Dusters came.out victorious. Runners-up were the Kincardine; Bullshooters. The L.O. Devils will present Lucknow' Minor. Hockey with a donation in the near future. The, hockey team thanks the women of the team for a job well done. The "Kirkin 0' The Tartan" Service will be held in the Lucknow Presbyterian Church Sunday, August 1st 10:00 a.m. Highland Pipe Music Everyone is invited to share in this celebration of the blessing of the Tartan.
