to last week.

1993" International Plowing Match
and Country Living Exposition is
responsible for organizing the
transportation of visitors from the
parking lots to the Plowing Match
site as well as to various activities
on nearby farms. If you are

(70.-100 HP 2WD or 4WD) and/or
bale thrower wagon (18-20 foot) or
you would like to donate a day of
your time to drive a tractor, bet-

Lucknow 4-H beef club kids
take third place at Showfest

Three members of the Lucknow
4-H Beef Club did themselves and
their club proud on Sunday; when
they competed in the second Show -
fest '93. Placing third, the group,
comprised of Kevin Rintoul and
Amy Mugford, junior members, and
Corey Rintoul a novice member,
competed against' 24 other groups
of three at the competition held at
Red Holm Farms, R.R. 1,
Mopr ield. '
Theiim of the competition was
to prepare, without use of 'electrical
equipment, an animal for showing..
The six judges marked, the groups
on grooming (40%), knowledge
(20%), use of time (20%) and team
effort (20%). •1

in protecting environment
The Environmental Youth Corp
(EYC) is an organization employing
students aged 15 to 24 in various
projects across Ontario. These
projects are conducted in an effort
• to help maintain our environment.
Since its beginnings in 1988 they
have employed almost 15,000 per-
sons. Funding for the program is
received from the Ministries of .
Agriculture and Food, Environment
and . Energy, Natural Resources, •
Northern Development and Mines
and Culture and Tourism and
Recreation.
The Huron County Health. Unit
project is called Lake Huron (Huron
' County) Pollution Reduction.. The
focys of this project is to identify
the location of existing septic tank
systems as well as when and how
they are being maintained; to find
• sources of septic pollution along the
lake Huron shoreline.
During' the last 10 Years, the
water quality of the beaches in
Huron County has deteriorated.
Signs cautioning bathers are posted
annually to warn bathers that fol-,
lowing a rainstorm Lake Huron
water may be polluted for swim-
ming for the next two to three days.
The students. employed by the
health unit for this project will be
conducting a sanitary survey of the
properties along the Lakeshore. This
survey asks for information about
your septic tank system and the
type of water supply used and its
location, A sample of well water
will be collected from each of the
well systems.

In the morning the 4-H members
took advantage of various teaching
clinics. The day wrapped up with a
barbecue. Mrs. Rintoul said it was
a great day for all the kids:

Bull Evaluation Centres
It's that time of year to nominate
your early born bull calves for the.
bull evaluation program and ensure
you can have them vaccinated and
weighed at the necessary times.
Locally, January 1 to March. 15
born bulls, will head to Mount
Forest on September 3 or Dover
Centre on September 2. Mount
Forest will have an Angus breed
group and.a Hereford group will be
at Dover Centre. Other bulls are
welcome.
A few reminders... All bulls must
be weighed at home at weaning
between 120 and 250 days of age.
Supervised or unsupervised weights
are eligible. All weaning weights to
be submitted to your OMAE office
for processing under BHIP.
Cost for testing is $2.40 'per heacL
per day as of June .1. Nomination
forms are' available at the OMAF
