by Pat Livingston
Three months of hard work and a
considerable investment, by Robert
and Marion Jones, has resulted in a
"bright, new look" for Lucknow
Bowl.
The new owners of the establish-
ment took possession in early April
and since then Marion says, "the
entire interior surface of the enter-
tainment centre has been repainted."
Two new propane furnaces have
been installed to heat the business
portion of the building. The alleys
have been completely sanded and
resurfaced, said Robert. "They
(alleys) were down for one week."
-The outside roof has also received
a lot of work. New business signs
have been installed on the east and
west sides of the building. Emer=
gency safety lights were installed,
and the building meets health and
fire regulations.
In addition to the business
renovations, they added another
floor to the living .quarters, which
they will finish in the winter, and
redecorated the main floor quarters.
Bob admits they were "gree-
nhorns" when they took over, but
they are learning quickly, and he
attributes the generous sharing of
knowledge by Shani Webb Ziegler
(former manager) and other bowling
proprietors in the area as the
reason.
In the near future, they plan to
install new rings on • the bowling
pins. A new .type of band will be
placed on pins on alleys one and •
three as a trial to see how bowlers
respond.
The business is not only a
bowling alley. It is now an enter-
tainrnent centre and offers shuf-
fleboard, darts, pool tables, cards,
and crib boards to its customers.
Many ideas are being thrown
around to gauge response from the
BUSINESS BEAT
public. One is the possibility of an
afternoon mothers' league, with a
babysitting service provided at a
very nominal fee.
Already in place is the Youth
Bowling Council, with Eric Taylor
as program director. Anyone wan-
ting more information on the
program is welcome to call Luck -
now Bowl or Eric.
Robert said, "We have to rekindle
the fire. We want to know what the
community is feeling and what they
*ant. It is our hope to increase the
number of leagues and get . .this
business back into full force."
Lucknow Bowl's summer hours
are Monday, Tuesday, and
Thursday, .12 noon to 10 p.m.,
Friday and Saturday 12 noon to 11
p.m. and Sundays 1 to 5 p.m. The
business 'is located on the corner of
Havelock and Campbell Streets.
Phone 528-3437. Don't hesitate to
call Marion or Robert if you have
any questions regarding their enter-
tainment centre. If you didn't make
open house on the weekend, drop in
some time and view the new look
at Lucknow Bowl.
Robert and Marion Jones officially opened the Lucknow Bowl
and Game Centre on the weekend. They purchased the
business In early April and since then have Invested many
dollars and hours of hard work into giving the operation a
"bright, new look." (Pat Livingston photo)
