Up-to-date weather info
is available in this area
Up to the minute local •weather
information is available from En-
vironment Canada's weather radio
service. •
Locally, there is a weather radio
station located in Goderich at
162.475 MH. The weather infor-
mation is transmitted over VHF -FM
radio which requires a crystal -
controlled receiver.
Ordinary AM or FM table top
radios are not able to receive this
frequency. There are several small
pocket size radio receivers on the
market. Some farmers with VHF
radios in their tractor or truck have
added a crystal to their radio in
order to receive the weather radio
information..
Forecasts are updated at 6:00 a.m,
and throughout the day $s con-
ditions change. Other information
given in the report includes drying
index, growing degree days and
dew point.Dew point is a good
indicator of the ability to squeeze
moisture out of the air.
For more information or to com-
ment about the service contact,
Weather Office Service, Environ-
ment Canada at (519) 649-2050.

Discuss age elimination
•from page 1
nition ofspecial contributions or of
long and special services to the
hospital.
'Board of governors member Ken
Wood spoke on behalf of the
motion. He said these people can
' bring important information to the
board.. He also suggested that
because the• . board members had
questioning minds, there should not
be a worry about abuse.
The elimination of the age
• limitation (70 years old) met with
little opposition as did updates to
readjust board committee structures.
County. Representation •
Efforts to work put Huron County
representation.oe the hospital board
did, however,' generate some discus- .
sion. • '
Hospital board chairman .Doris'
Inglis explained that, in May, the.
board was informed the county no
longer planned to maintain a county
• representative on their board.
The Wingham board requested the
representative, Doug Fortune, be
appointed for an additional year to
allow the hospital tune to deal with
the issue at this meeting.
She suggested a number of op-
tions were available to corporation
members. Mrs.' Inglis also asked
that a survey ` of the options be
filled out and the board would
examine the . results at • its fall
•
meeting.
Option One would see the
creation of a "Member at Large”
position to allow for a member' who
would not be under any ,geographic
area (the majority of board mem-
bers -- represent a . specific
geographic area). This would allow
those individuals living in, areas
where there is already geographic
representation another way to take
a position in the board to offer- their H •
expertise.
Mrs. Inglis noted this option
would also allow for cross member-
ships of boards -- something being
investigated by the Ministry of
Health. -
Option Two would be to elect a
member from the catchment'area of
the board.
. Option Three' would simply be the • i.
elimination of the county position
and thereby reduce the board. size '
by one.
Option Four would be to have
discussions with the county to
renegotiate its position.
Originally, county representation
was useful in getting hospital needs
recognized through higher levels of
govenament. However,—she_.said
with the establishment of DHCs, the
county representation might not be
as essential.
County council was at the pint
where it decided that since it no .
longer provided funding grants to
the hospitals, it no longer needed to
be represented.
