Bicycle thefts increase
The OPP in Kincardine report a
number of bicycle thefts and have
had a number ofbicycles found.
Staff Sergeant Al Neville said the
found bicycles, often have no
engraved . markings or the owners
do not keep record. of die serial
number to facilitate, their return.
He suggests people.put the licence
gg PSP P
number on the bike so it can be
traced back to the owner.
He also recommends people not
leave their bicycles in driveway or
on 'front lawns but keep them
locked or in a garage instead.
Two break and enters were
reported from tote same cottage on
June 24.
The first took place in May but
was not reported until after the
second break and enter took place.
There were no signs of entry in
either break in. The first time,
between. May 18 and May 19, five
40 -ounce bottles of liquor were
stolen along with bath mats, a flash
light and can opener for a value of
more than $140. -
The second time, between June 7
and June 23, 11 40 -ounce bottles of
liquor were stolen worth $184.
On June 24, $379 worth of copper
pipe was reported -stolen from a
construction site in Ripley. The
copper pipe had been left against
the side of a trailer.
A 19 -year-old woman has been
charged with an attempted break
and enter at a ,Ripley grocery store.
A trap door leads into° the store
from the basement and Staff Ser-
geant Neville said the owner puts
empty bottles across the top to act
as. an alarm.
On June 26 he heard the bottles
tip over from his apartment and
called the police.
A 20 -year-old Kincardine man
has been charged with consuming
liquor other than in a residence
after OPP came upon him and his
jeep at a Huron Township gravel
pit. •
The jeep was stuck in water and
when OPP arrived, they saw the
man drinking beer.
They seized 11 bottles of beer
and one part bottle from the man
and while they were dealing with
the incident, friends of the man
arrived.
The officers saw a bottle of liquor
thrown out of the arriving vehicle
and police searched the car.
As a result, a 22 -year-old Kincar-
dine man was charged with con-
suming liquor. other than in a
residence.
On June 26, six people were
charged with consuming liquor
other than in . a residence in the
parking lot at the Ripley Huron
Complex. The complex was the
scene of a large stag and doe at
which the OPP were requested to
patrol the lot.
A 24 -year-old Ripley man was
charged with careless driving after
tearing around on Ripley's Queen
Street before pulling into the
complex parking lot where he came
upon the OPP officers.
An additional three officers were
called to the complex from Walker-
ton to help disperse the crowd that
had gathered in the parking lot and
to break up two small fights that
had started.
A side window to a Tiverton
business was pried off between
June 26 and June 27 and $130 in
cash and cheques was stolen from
the cash box.
Three unlocked vehicles had been
entered overnight on June 27 on
Patterson Street in Tiverton. About
$10 in coins was taken from two
truck while $25 was removed from
a wallet left in a car.
Also overnight, about $2,300
worth of equipment, including three
tackle boxes, a five gallon gas tank
and a downrigger, were stolen from
a_boatleft.-ia.a_nverton_back-yard
Staff Sergeant Neville warns these
types of crimes occur frequently in'
the summer and suggests people do
not leave any valuables in their
vehicles.
When' people are going to a
beach, he suggested they take their
valuables with them or lock them in
a trunk.
Last year, he said there were a
number of incidents where car
windows were smashed to get at
purses and wallets left in plain sight
in the vehicles.

Keep checking for lice
School is out but that doesn't,
mean we can stop checking our
children for head lice. There are
many opportunities for head lice to
spread amongst children all sum-
mer long sleep -overs, summer
sports teams, shared headgear, camp
outs, neighborhood play groups and
visitors from other areas are just a
few examples'.
We will never eliminate head lice.
The most we can tip is limit the
spread of head lice. The Bruce -
Grey -Owen Sound Health Unit
recommends that parents continue
to check their children'sheads
weekly as part of their routine care.
Check daily if you think your child
may have come into contact with
head lice.
The earlier an infestation is found
- the easier it is to clear up. Infor-
mation on the identification and
treatment of head lice is available
from the health unit, pharmacists
and physicians.
